2 more cases of diphtheria related to previously infected pregnant women

On August 8, the People's Committee of Muong Lat district, Thanh Hoa province, announced that based on the results of sample testing conducted by the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, 2 more cases of diphtheria were identified, related to the outbreak in Doan Ket quarter, Muong Lat town, testing positive after 3 days of quarantine and monitoring.

These two people had previously had long-term close contact with a pregnant woman with diphtheria. They were among 23 close contacts (F1) who were quarantined and monitored after the pregnant woman was diagnosed with the disease.

“Currently, the two patients are being treated and monitored at the Department of Tropical Diseases, Thanh Hoa General Hospital. The health of both patients is stable,” informed a representative of the Muong Lat District People’s Committee.

Thus, this infection chain has identified 3 patients. The remaining 21 F1s are continuing to be quarantined and monitored at Muong Lat District General Hospital and at home.

Previously, on the evening of August 5, in Muong Lat district, Thanh Hoa province, the first case of diphtheria was recorded. The patient was a pregnant woman named PLM (17 years old, residing in Doan Ket quarter, Muong Lat town).
