Strengthening coordination between Vietnam Trade Union and Korean Trade Union Confederation

On the afternoon of August 5, in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang - President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor had a meeting and worked with the delegation of the Korean Federation of Trade Unions (FKTU) led by Mr. Kim Dongmyeong, President of FKTU.

At the reception, Chairman Nguyen Dinh Khang, on behalf of more than 11.5 million Vietnamese trade union members, expressed his gratitude to the Korean Government for sending representatives to attend the funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and thanked the FKTU and Mr. Kim Dongmyeong personally for sending condolences and encouragement to the Vietnam Trade Union, Vietnamese workers, and the family of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Chairman Nguyen Dinh Khang assessed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Korea (in 1992), the cooperative relationship between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Korean Federation of Trade Unions (FKTU) has continuously developed, becoming increasingly effective and practical.

Currently, there are 8 industry trade unions and 12 local labor federations under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor that have cooperative relations and exchange delegations with the provincial and municipal trade union federations of Korea.

Also at the meeting, representatives of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the FKTU discussed the general situation of trade union activities in each country. The two sides agreed on the common perception that they are two trade union organizations of workers, with the common function of caring for and protecting the legal and legitimate rights of workers.

Chairman Nguyen Dinh Khang said that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has just celebrated its 95th anniversary on July 28, 2024. With a 4-level operating structure, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has actively implemented and achieved many important results in performing its tasks of representing, caring for, and protecting union members and workers, such as: Participating in the development of labor-related legal policies such as the Law on Social Insurance, the Law on Employment, the Law on Housing, and the Law on Trade Unions. Representatives of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor effectively performed their role as members of the National Wage Council, successfully negotiating the increase in regional minimum wages over the past 5 years with an increase of 23%, and continued to increase by 6% from July 1, 2024...

In its operational orientation, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor always attaches importance to promoting friendly relations and cooperation with trade unions of other countries, in which the relationship with the Korean Trade Union is especially valued, commensurate with the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Korea that has been developing very well.

Appreciating the effective and diverse cooperation relationship with FKTU, Chairman Nguyen Dinh Khang hopes that the FKTU leadership will continue to pay attention, together with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, to promote the relationship between the two sides through practical and effective activities; maintain annual exchanges of high-level bilateral delegations, deepen cooperation activities between the sectors and labor federations of the two countries, increase experience sharing; support each other to build harmonious labor relations, protect the rights and legitimate interests of workers working abroad, improve working conditions and environment, towards the goal of decent employment for all workers...
