Soaring 200,000 wishes to enter pedagogy
The education sector has gradually regained its position in recent years as the benchmark scores and number of applications have increased year by year.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son said at the regular Government press conference on August 5 that the four fields attracting the most candidates this year include: Business and management, engineering and technology, computers, and pedagogy.
In particular, the number of applications for teacher training increased by 85% compared to last year (equivalent to 200,000 applications).
"Students' interest in the teaching profession is partly due to the tuition and living expenses support policy under Decree 116, so the number of applications has skyrocketed," said Mr. Son.
Some other fields with strong growth in the total number of wishes are natural sciences (up 61%); national security and defense (up 46.5%). With high-tech industries such as semiconductor design, the total number of wishes increased by 30%.
Meanwhile, despite leading for many years, the business and management group saw a decrease of about 3% in the number of wishes (equivalent to 24,000) compared to last year. The computer and information technology group saw a decrease of 5% (equivalent to 15,000).
This year, the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training recorded more than 733,000 candidates registering for admission (equivalent to 68.5% of the number of candidates taking the graduation exam), an increase of about 73,000 compared to last year.
The increase in the number of general registrations leads to a stronger attraction at large schools. For example, the number of candidates registering for Ho Chi Minh City University of Education is 31,252 candidates. This level increased by 100% compared to 2023, which was 15,596 candidates.
Notably, the number of wishes reached 51,625, an increase of 120% compared to last year at 23,345 wishes.

Dr. Huynh Trung Phong, Director of the Center for Student Support and Startup Development, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said: "The number of students applying to the school this year has increased in all admission methods."
Dr. Quach Thanh Hai, Head of Training Department, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, also said that many candidates are interested in the school's pedagogy department. The most interested major is English pedagogy.
In the school's method of considering transcript scores, English pedagogy and information technology are the majors with the highest standard score, up to 29 points. Candidates must achieve 9.6 transcript points for each subject to be admitted.
Expected increase in pedagogical benchmark
Faced with this situation, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Hoang Minh Son predicted that the benchmark scores for the pedagogical group will increase.
In general, Dr. Huynh Trung Phong said that the admission score will be considered based on many factors, and it can be predicted that most majors at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education will increase or remain the same.
Looking at the early admission method shows the level of competition in the teaching profession.
This year, the admission score using high school academic results at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education ranges from 21.43 to 29.81 points, the highest being in chemistry pedagogy, with a score of 29.81 points.
Many other majors also have benchmark scores above 28 such as: Mathematics pedagogy 29.55; Physics pedagogy 29.48; Biology pedagogy 29.46; History pedagogy 29.05; Primary education 28.66; Civic education 28.03; Political education 28.22; National security and defense 28.01; Literature pedagogy 28.92; Geography pedagogy 28.57; English pedagogy 28.81; Chinese pedagogy 28.16; Natural science pedagogy 28.68; History - Geography pedagogy 28.23...
Notably, the number of applications for admission based on transcripts this year at this school increased 1.5 times compared to 2023. More than 14,000 candidates applied for admission based on transcripts. Meanwhile, only about 400 candidates were admitted using this method, so nearly 14,000 excellent students failed.
For the admission method using high school academic results combined with specialized competency assessment exams, chemistry pedagogy still leads with 28.25 points. The remaining majors take a score of 20.54 points or higher.

The admission scores for Hanoi National University of Education are also high. According to an admissions officer, the school predicts that the admission scores for majors with reduced quotas will increase the most, possibly by 1-1.5 points compared to last year. The admission scores for the remaining teacher training majors may increase slightly by 0.25-0.5 points.
Or the record for the floor score also "called out" the name of the math pedagogy major of Saigon University when it received applications for admission with up to 24.5 points.
In recent years, the education industry has always been in the top with high benchmark scores.
According to statistics from Dan Tri reporters, in 2023, there will be nearly 27 majors with a benchmark score of 28 or higher, or an average of more than 9.3 points/subject to pass. Of these, there are 5 majors of pedagogical schools, accounting for nearly 20%.

The benchmark score at many teacher training schools is also above 27 points. This means that candidates need to achieve an average of above 9 points/subject to have a chance of being admitted.
The benchmark scores have been high for many years, plus the number of applications has increased by 85%, while many schools have announced a reduction in enrollment quotas, leading to concerns that this year's benchmark scores may "hit the ceiling".
