A delegation of Polish agricultural businesses visited Ho Chi Minh City on a trip to promote the Vietnamese market from August 7 to 11.

After 7 years of exploring the Vietnamese market, the growth of Polish food and agricultural products to Vietnam has been quite steady, especially pork, poultry and vegetables.

Sharing more results with the press, Mr. Piotr Kondraciuk, export support director of the Polish Agricultural Support Center, said that the total export value of Poland to Vietnam last year reached 540 million euros (nearly 590 million USD ), an increase of 16% compared to 2022. Of which, pork and poultry products accounted for 143 million euros, an increase of 43%, with frozen poultry alone increasing by 71%, reaching 42 million euros.

"This figure will be much more meaningful if compared to 2012, the total export value of Polish chicken meat to Vietnam was only about 1.6 million USD and in the first 4 months of this year it was 21 million USD. Similarly, with apples in 2012 it was zero but now it has reached 557,000 USD. The apple season is in September so this figure will increase even more," added Mr. Piotr Kondraciuk.

Currently, Vietnam has licensed Polish beef to be exported to Vietnam.

According to Mr. Piotr Kondraciuk, these results are greatly supported by the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) signed by both sides and Poland is one of the member countries. After 4 years of official entry into force, the agreement has opened up and made it easier and more convenient for Polish agricultural products to access the Vietnamese market.

Ms. Bozena Wroblewska - President of the Polish Chamber of Commerce Promotion Center - said that free trade agreements not only remove most import and export taxes between the two sides but also simplify the licensing process and other obstacles. Regulations on the origin verification process are also synchronized.

Polish businesses assess that in the Asian region, Vietnam is emerging as a potential market for Polish food and agricultural products, alongside China and the Philippines. After success with chicken, pork, apples, and beverages, businesses from this country are looking for partners to distribute more beef to the Vietnamese market.

In 2023, the trade value between Poland and Vietnam reached over 5 billion USD, of which most of Vietnam's goods were exported to Poland with an estimated turnover of 4.6 billion USD, a slight decrease compared to the previous year.

Businesses are eyeing the dairy and processed food markets because export taxes on these product groups will gradually be reduced to 0% within 5-7 years from when the agreement officially comes into effect.

Poland is currently the fourth largest pork producer in Europe and the third largest poultry producer in the world. Enterprises in this country said that in addition to direct exports, they will also expand through intermediary partners and bring more goods to supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

In the first 3 months of 2024 alone, bilateral trade turnover between the two countries reached over 793 million USD, of which Vietnam exported 695 million USD and imported 98 million USD of goods from Poland.
