On August 8, at Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School, the Kien Giang Department of Education and Training and Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Giang, former Director of the Department, publicly apologized to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chung, residing in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City, former Principal of Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School (Rach Gia City, Kien Giang).

At the public apology, Ms. Pham Xuan Binh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang, sent an apology from the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chung, because the department made statements and provided information to the press before there was a conclusion about his violations.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Giang, former Director of the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang, said that she had not received a decision from the People's Court of District 12, Ho Chi Minh City, to apologize to Mr. Chung, but only received a notice from the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang; at the same time, she had not agreed with Mr. Chung to apologize, but these were agreements between the Department of Education and Training and Mr. Chung. However, she did not want the incident to drag on and affect the common work of the department, so she agreed to publicly apologize to Mr. Chung according to the decision of the People's Court of District 12 and apologized to the leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang for affecting the common work of the department.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chung said: "I accept the apology of the Department of Education and Training and Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Giang, although the apology is too late. I myself have regained my honor and reputation as a teacher after many years of searching for justice and righteousness for myself."

Previously, in April 2018, the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee issued a disciplinary reprimand to Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Giang, member of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Department of Education and Training. According to the conclusion of the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee, Ms. Giang, as the head of the education sector, was partly responsible for the violations of a number of high schools; directed the admission of 6 cases below the standard score and recruited staff to Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School without taking an entrance exam or selection.

In particular, regarding teacher Nguyen Dinh Chung, former Principal of Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School, Ms. Giang was not determined to handle the staff who committed violations when Mr. Chung filed a complaint and reflection, and did not direct the investigation, verification, and conclusion to handle according to regulations. At the same time, she hastily provided information about Mr. Chung's shortcomings and violations without verification and conclusion. This caused bad public opinion, affecting Mr. Chung's reputation and honor, as well as the reputation of the education sector and the Board of Directors of the Kien Giang Department of Education and Training.

Accordingly, after quitting his job in Kien Giang, Mr. Chung moved to Ho Chi Minh City to live. At the same time, he sent a petition to the People's Court of District 12, Ho Chi Minh City to file a lawsuit, requesting the Kien Giang Department of Education and Training and Ms. Giang to publicly apologize and compensate him 1 million VND for damages to his honor, dignity, and reputation because the Kien Giang Department of Education and Training and Ms. Giang personally provided the press with a lot of false information about him.

Accordingly, on May 16, 2024, the People's Court of District 12, Ho Chi Minh City issued a decision recognizing the agreement between Mr. Chung and the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang and Ms. Giang agreed with Mr. Chung's request for the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang and she publicly apologized to Mr. Chung; at the same time, the Department jointly with Ms. Giang compensated Mr. Chung 1 million VND in damages.
