Very different from the previous admissions, nowadays candidates have many paths (methods) to enter university. It would not be a problem if everything were simple and easy to understand. However, in about 20 admission methods at universities in recent years, there are methods that are extremely complicated and difficult to understand, from the way of determining subjects, scores and especially the scoring formula. Many people working in the education sector find it difficult to understand, let alone candidates and parents who may only participate in university admissions once in their life. That is why there is a situation where when a child participates in university admissions, the whole family has to "struggle" to research the admission methods, and each person understands it differently.
Getting into university is not difficult nowadays because there are many paths. However, with too many methods; some methods are too complicated and confusing, making candidates confused, leading to confusion, wrong choices and… unfair failures. Not to mention, according to admissions experts, there is also unfairness between the methods.
Seeing this situation, when summarizing the 2022 enrollment period, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education, commented that some training institutions offered too many admission methods, causing many candidates to choose the wrong one. At the same time, she noted that training institutions need to analyze and compile statistics on the results of admission methods, eliminate ineffective methods, and have admission plans to ensure fairness between methods... At the end of July, the Ministry of Education and Training once again recommended that training institutions review admission methods, eliminate methods that cause system interference as well as difficulties and obstacles for society.
According to the analysis of the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2023, the method based on high school graduation exam results accounts for 49.45% of candidates applying for admission, high school academic results (report cards) is 30.24%, assessment of capacity - thinking is 2.57%, the remaining methods reach 17.74%. Thus, it is clear that there are many methods, the admission rate is very low, ineffective.
If they put themselves in the interests of candidates, schools will know to simplify unnecessary things. Getting into a desired school or major is not simple. It is a long-term learning and training process that requires a lot of effort. It is also a journey of learning, considering, and choosing a suitable learning environment; approaching and getting used to adjustments and changes in exams...
Therefore, it is really unnecessary for candidates to spend more time and effort to understand overly complicated admission methods.
The upcoming 2025 enrollment period will have many changes because it is the first year that students of the 2018 General Education program will take the graduation exam in a new way. How the enrollment plans of universities with the new program are also a matter of concern for many 12th grade students, teachers, and parents.
With many optional subject combinations and changes in the curriculum, candidates this year will certainly face many confusions and bewilderments. In this context, building a simple and easy-to-understand admission method is also a way to create opportunities and fairness for candidates in admission.
