Foreign language proficiency requirements are a source of anxiety for many students.
Missing out on graduation opportunities causes students to lose many good job opportunities because most students with good foreign language skills find jobs with an international element, high salaries, and also open up many new job opportunities.
Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hung, Head of Training at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that students should be aware of the importance of foreign languages in life and work and should start learning them very early.
Learning a foreign language isn't really difficult because it doesn't require much critical thinking or intellectual ability. With diligence and a suitable study plan throughout your university years, you'll achieve good results.

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hien from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology also shared: “With English proficiency standards, students will have a better chance of getting good jobs and higher scholarships. Besides, large projects from non-governmental organizations always need people with good expertise and who can communicate with foreigners. These are opportunities for students with foreign language skills.”
Mr. Trinh Minh Thu, Rector of the Water Resources University , stated that English proficiency is not only a requirement of the Ministry of Education and Training in general but also of the Water Resources University in particular. “This is a crucial factor for integration. We aim to train students to work not only domestically but also in other regions and around the world,” Mr. Thu said.
Recognizing that failing to meet these output standards significantly impacts students during their graduation process and job applications, many universities have implemented solutions.
Dr. Nguyen Viet Khoa, Head of the Foreign Language Department at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, informed that the university has recently been recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training as a foreign language testing center. The center organizes the Ministry's standard VSTEP exams, providing a convenient opportunity for students to study and take the exam within the university, obtaining a certificate recognized by the Ministry.
According to educators , to best prepare for English language exams, students need to invest time and find a learning path that suits their level and goals. The last two years of the program are demanding, and time is limited.
Students need to accurately assess their foreign language proficiency in order to develop a suitable study plan. They should master grammar and vocabulary, and strive to improve their communication and listening skills daily to solidify their knowledge.
Having recognized that failing to meet the required output standards significantly impacts students during their graduation process and recruitment, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City has implemented a control measure starting from the second year. If students do not achieve A2 level proficiency by the end of their second year, they will not be allowed to continue to the third year and must temporarily suspend their studies until they achieve it.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education has set a roadmap requiring students to earn 12 English credits in the first five semesters, which can be taken at the university's language development center or at external centers.
