On August 1, Ho Chi Minh City Museum organized a thematic activity "From Don ca tai tu to Cai luong stage art" with the participation of artisans, artists, lecturers, tourists and students.

The program attracted many tourists and students to attend.
The program aims to further promote the preservation, promotion and development of the value of Don ca tai tu art and Cai luong theater, and at the same time introduce these two unique art forms to domestic and foreign visitors, especially the young generation.
The art of Southern amateur music was born in the late 19th century, a unique folk art form created based on the ceremonial music, Royal court music and the sweet, profound melodies of folk songs, closely associated with the lives of the people of the South...
Through the ups and downs of time, Don ca tai tu has affirmed its special role in the cultural and spiritual life of the people of the South.
In 2013, the art of Southern amateur music was recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Performances of musical instruments and songs by artisans and artists.
Cai Luong theater art was born in the first decades of the 20th century, an art form inherited and developed from the art of Southern amateur music.
When the Don ca tai tu movement spread throughout the Southern region, some amateur bands boldly let artists stand up to sing and gesture, expressing their mood to match the song, later called ca ra bo.
At first there was only one person, then it developed into a singing act with assigned roles called "hat chap" and combined with Western drama to become Cai Luong.
If Don ca tai tu is performed in a moderate space, day or night, everyone enjoys the simple, rustic music and lyrics together without the need for any sound equipment, then Cai luong is theatrical, performed in an open space, with eye-catching backdrops, scenery, sound systems, halls, lights, actors in costume, etc., attracting the audience's attention.
Don ca tai tu is considered the root, while Cai luong is likened to the top of a tree. Although there are differences, in general, these are traditional art forms of the nation, the spiritual food of the people of the South in particular and the whole country in general.
According to experts, the similarity between Don ca tai tu and Cai luong is that they both use the same melodies in the Southern folk music genre. The difference is that Don ca tai tu is chamber music, while Cai luong is stage art.
In traditional music, the instrument is played first, then the song is sung later. In Cai Luong, the instrument is sung first. Southern traditional music is usually sung in its entirety, while Cai Luong uses only necessary sections, sometimes in the middle of the song or at the end of the song to suit the drama and character.
Despite many ups and downs, Don ca tai tu and Cai luong still persistently flow in the spiritual life of the people of the South.
At the seminar, visitors and students listened to Dr. Le Hong Phuoc, Head of the Faculty of French Literature - University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) present on the formation and development of the art of Don ca tai tu, Cai luong theater combined with performances illustrating the music and singing of artisans and artists.
Through the program, it helps the young generation understand the rich cultural and spiritual life of the people of the South and love more the traditional folk art forms of the nation.
