On August 7, Mr. Nguyen Van Ut (40 years old, residing in Cho Moi district, An Giang ), owner of Tan Trung - My Hoi Dong ferry connecting Cho Moi and Phu Tan districts, sent a notice to the two districts about temporarily suspending ferry operations.

According to Mr. Ut, the ferry terminal was approved for investment by the Provincial People's Committee in April 2019 and licensed to operate by the Department of Transport until the end of 2024.

Following the collision between a cargo ship and a passenger ferry, the ferry terminal owner announced that it would temporarily suspend passenger transport across the river from midnight on August 8. Once the investigation results are available, the ferry terminal will announce its resumption of operations.

As reported, at around 2:00 p.m. on August 6, cargo ship number 9065106, piloted by a Thai captain, was moving from An Giang to Can Tho City.

When arriving at the Vam Nao River (in My Hoi Dong commune, Cho Moi district), there was a collision with the passenger ferry AG-23293 controlled by captain Chau Trong Luc (39 years old, living in Cho Moi district).

A strong collision injured 1 person, a truck carrying gas cylinders fell into the river and is being salvaged...

The Provincial Traffic Police Department informed that the ferry terminal has a decision to announce its operations, but the ferry is not allowed to carry cars.

Meanwhile, the provincial Department of Transport Inspectorate determined that the cause of the incident was due to the passenger ferry driver's lack of observation, leading to a collision with a cargo ship.
