CNN reported on August 9 that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Democratic opponent Kamala Harris both confirmed their participation in the debate on September 10 on ABC News.
This will be the first head-to-head match in a campaign that is expected to be very close in opinion polls.
On social network X, Vice President Harris expressed her anticipation for the debate on September 10 after Mr. Trump “finally announced his participation.”
Speaking to reporters at a campaign stop in Detroit, she said she was open to discussing more debates.
Meanwhile, according to Reuters news agency, at a press conference at his residence in Palm Beach (Florida), former President Trump expressed his desire to have two more debates on September 4 and September 25, which will be broadcast on Fox and NBC channels.
However, he did not offer specific terms, such as whether there would be an audience, and it was unclear whether his campaign had made any proposals to Ms Harris's camp.
In a related development, a poll released by Ipsos on August 8 showed that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris is receiving 42% support, leading her Republican rival Donald Trump at 37%, in the race for the US presidency in November.
With this result, Vice President Harris has widened the lead since the Reuters/Ipsos survey on July 22-23, in which her support rate compared to Mr. Trump was 37%-34%.
The poll of 2,045 U.S. adults, conducted from August 2-7, found that 4% of those surveyed supported independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr., down from 10% in July. The poll was conducted online and has a margin of error of about 3 percentage points.
In a separate Ipsos poll, Harris led Trump 42%-40% in the seven states with the closest votes in 2020: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. However, this result did not affect the results in each state.
