The project to build an exhibition center with a total capital of more than 800 billion VND in Thu Thiem urban area (Thu Duc city, Ho Chi Minh City) has just been restarted, with the expected completion date at the end of 2025.

In 2013, the Ho Chi Minh City Planning Exhibition Center project was started. This is a project with a scale of 18,000m2, located between the Saigon River road and the Arc Boulevard in the Thu Thiem urban area. After more than 10 years, up to now, this project with a total capital of more than 800 billion VND is still just a block of gray, motionless concrete.
The project is located in the central square area, which was expected to be a symbol of the Thu Thiem urban area. Recently, Ho Chi Minh City has held a bidding process to select a new contractor to restart this project.
The Ho Chi Minh City Planning Exhibition Center has an architecture of 2 blocks placed at an angle and 1 steel block forming an inverted triangle. According to the design, the building has a scale of 5 floors with the main function of displaying and exhibiting the city's architectural planning. This is also expected to be an event venue, a place for experts, people, tourists... to exchange.
The project has reached more than 80% of the construction volume. Although the rough part has been completed, the construction cannot be completed due to problems with the bidding package for the production and installation of glass walls, support frames, partitions... Other items cannot be implemented either.
After more than 10 years of stagnation, many parts of the project have deteriorated. Many places are full of water and garbage, especially during the rainy season.
The construction unit's machinery and temporary buildings are still intact. Many construction materials and ventilation pipes are lying around. The elevator system has not been completed yet... Currently, only the ceiling pipes have been completed on each floor. The walls and columns have not been painted, and the floors are full of water. The inside of the building is now often a resting place for workers working nearby.
Previously, the project was invested by the Exhibition Center Construction Management Board (Department of Planning and Architecture of Ho Chi Minh City). In October 2022, the project was transferred to the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Civil and Industrial Works. Currently, the project has been adjusted to complete by the end of 2025.
