The initiative "Applying the method of cryo-cutting large-sized colorectal polyps

Honored to be the only individual in the private hospital sector to receive a Certificate of Merit

As a medical unit with nearly 30 years of development, with the desire to increasingly improve the quality of medical examination and treatment to serve the people, MEDLATEC Healthcare System is always active in training and scientific research. This journey does not only stop within the unit but also expands to the outside through scientific conferences/seminars held nationwide. In particular, scientific research at all levels is an activity in which doctors and medical staff at MEDLATEC actively participate.

At the conference to honor outstanding Trade Union officials of the Capital Health Sector in 2024; awarding commemorative medals for the cause of building the Trade Union organization; honoring "Initiatives and Creativity" of the Capital Health Sector in 2024 , MSc. As the only individual from the private hospital sector to receive a Certificate of Merit at the conference, MSc. Dr. Luu Tuan Thanh expressed his honor when representing MEDLATEC General Hospital to receive the award, this is also a recognition of the Health Union for the unit's efforts to improve techniques. At the same time, the doctor shared: "The research implementation process, initially had some difficulties, but with the efforts of colleagues in the department, we completed the topic and achieved high efficiency. I believe that with this method, patients can remove polyps in a simple, effective way, with few complications, low cost, and easy to access. Currently, the method is being routinely applied at MEDLATEC General Hospital".

Cryoablation - A superior initiative to completely destroy colon polyps

According to statistics from the Global Cancer Organization GLOBOCAN in 2022, colorectal cancer ranks third in new cases globally with nearly 2 million cases and ranks second in cancer mortality, after lung cancer. The disease is caused by many factors, of which up to 95% of colorectal cancer patients are caused by polyps.

MSc. Dr. Luu Tuan Thanh said that currently, the most popular method of removing polyps is using an electric snare. However, the method still has disadvantages such as complications such as late bleeding and colon perforation. Therefore, with the desire to find the optimal method to effectively treat patients with colorectal polyps, the doctor has studied and researched the cryoablation method.

Through the process of researching, testing, and evaluating the safety of the cryoablation method from more than 100 patients with 135 polyps (performed from August 2023 to November 2023), the doctor announced 5 outstanding advantages of this method, including:

1/ Safe, highly effective: 97.04% successful cutting after 1 time.

2/ Simple implementation: The method only uses a conventional colonoscopy system and a specialized cold snare cutting tool, without the need to use a thermal cutter like other conventional methods. The rate of polyps that need to be lifted and clipped after cutting is 5.19% and 2.96%.

3/ Low complications: In more than 100 patients, there was only 1 case of early bleeding, no late bleeding or colon perforation.

4/ Widely applicable subjects: All patients with large colorectal polyps

5/ Cost savings: With the cold cutting method, patients do not need to pay extra for polyp cutting tools like the thermal cutting method (leg lifting injection forceps, hemostatic clips), significantly reducing treatment costs.

The doctor said that in the world, there have been a number of studies and reports clearly showing the advantages of the method. The European Society of Digestive Endoscopy as well as the Japanese Digestive Society have recommended the use of the cold cutting method for adenomatous polyps measuring 6-10mm. However, currently, in Vietnam, this method has not really received much attention, there are only a few research articles and applications.

From that reality and the outstanding advantages proven through research and testing, doctors recommend applying this method widely and popularly at medical examination and treatment facilities nationwide.

Currently, the cryoablation method to treat colorectal polyps is being effectively implemented at MEDLATEC General Hospital.

Hopefully, the initiative "Applying cryoablation method for large-sized colorectal polyps"

With the mission for the community, MEDLATEC Healthcare System always wishes to join hands with medical units nationwide to bring advanced diagnostic technology and modern treatment methods to serve people better every day.

MEDLATEC Healthcare System is proud to be the place that gathers a team of experts and leading specialists such as Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Van Hong - Former Deputy Head of Gastroenterology Department, Bach Mai Hospital; Lecturer of Gastroenterology Department, Hanoi Medical University and a team of highly specialized and experienced doctors.

The Digestive Endoscopy Center has invested in a modern endoscopy system, using the most advanced technology today such as NBI staining magnification endoscopy to magnify images hundreds of times, determine the level of invasiveness of the lesion and quickly destroy cancer germs during the endoscopy process.

In addition, other advanced diagnostic techniques such as the testing system applying two international standards of the United States (CAP) and ISO 15189:2012, diagnostic imaging (CT, MSCT, MRI...) best serve people's needs for examination, early diagnosis and accurate treatment of gastrointestinal diseases.
