'Strive to train millions of human resources in the semiconductor industry'

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên19/11/2024

On the afternoon of August 9, in Hanoi, the National Innovation Center (NIC) in collaboration with Cadence Corporation, FPT Corporation and Tresemi (USA) organized a seminar on Promoting the role of Vietnamese enterprises in developing human resources in the semiconductor industry, combined with the closing ceremony of the microchip design training program.

According to Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation, When it comes to the three houses: the State, schools and businesses in developing the semiconductor industry, each house has a different role.

Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation, spoke at the seminar.

"In the past, the State has worked even harder than businesses. Regarding schools, never before in such a short time have universities participated in training in the semiconductor industry so quickly and readily.

We have determined to train 50,000 semiconductor workers, of which FPT has agreed with the Prime Minister to train 10,000 semiconductor workers. We started investing in the general education system, then the college and university system. We sometimes work with Korea and Taiwan, sometimes with Japan and the US, looking for every way to cooperate in training," said Mr. Binh.

Particularly emphasizing the need to discuss output and jobs for semiconductor graduates, according to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation: "There are many job opportunities. No matter how many graduates there are, it is still not enough for us alone."

Recognizing that the key factor to enhance cooperation between the State - schools - enterprises in developing human resources for the semiconductor industry is close and effective coordination between the three parties, Mr. Binh said that there needs to be a clear mechanism to share information, resources and experience among relevant parties.

According to Mr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, the participation of state agencies and enterprises in the process of training human resources in the semiconductor industry is extremely necessary, helping to improve the quality of training, thereby creating favorable conditions for students after graduation and meeting market needs.

"The current cooperation model between NIC and Ho Chi Minh City National University, FPT and training schools, educational institutions and businesses needs to be replicated," said Mr. Quan.

Investment attraction policy in semiconductor industry expected to be approved in August

The Ministry of Planning and Investment is assigned to preside over and coordinate with ministries, departments, branches and relevant parties to develop a Project on human resource development for the semiconductor industry until 2030, with a vision to 2050.

Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung speaks at the seminar

The goal is that by 2030, human resources in the Vietnamese semiconductor industry will be deeply involved in the design process of modern semiconductor microcircuits; deeply involved in and mastering a part of the technology in the semiconductor microcircuit packaging and testing stages; participating in work and gradually grasping the technology in the semiconductor manufacturing stage.

Vietnam trains at least 50,000 engineers and bachelors to serve the semiconductor industry in all stages of the value chain.

By 2050, Vietnam will become an important link in the global semiconductor industry value chain with a team of engineers and experts capable of meeting the development requirements of the Vietnamese semiconductor industry in both quality and quantity.

Many opinions at the seminar recommended that the Government soon approve the project so that Vietnam does not miss the opportunity to participate deeply in the semiconductor industry.

Regarding this project, according to Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung, the target of training 50,000 workers in the semiconductor industry is a safe calculation. "If we implement it well and have the conditions, we must do more than that. In the long term, we must strive to train millions of workers in the semiconductor industry," said Mr. Dung.

In addition to preparing human resources, Mr. Dung also emphasized that it is necessary to prepare policies to attract investment and form an ecosystem for the semiconductor industry.

"We are building a policy through an investment support fund; it is in the final stage and has been reported to the Prime Minister. It is expected that in August, policies can be approved to encourage investment in the semiconductor industry, forming an ecosystem for the semiconductor industry in Vietnam," the Minister of Planning and Investment added.
