Taiwanese boxer Chen Nien-chin has reached the semi-finals of the women's 66kg category at this year's Olympics, ensuring she will win at least a bronze medal. However, the 27-year-old boxer is not ready to stop there, expressing her determination to win gold at this year's Olympics.

Earlier, Chen Nien-chin, known as the "female cancer survivor", defeated Navbakhor Khamidova of Uzbekistan to reach the semi-finals. After the match, an excited Chen declared: "What I want is gold." The boxer's determination has received much attention as she has gone through a difficult journey to fight cancer. Chen began her sports career in wrestling before switching to boxing. She won gold at the 2013 AIBA Women's/Youth World Boxing Championships at the age of 16. The boxer made history in 2016 as Taiwan's first female boxer to compete in the Olympics. She lost 0-3 to Russia's Iaroslava Iakushina in the round of 16.

In 2018, Chen won gold at the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in the welterweight division. She was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2019 and underwent eight rounds of chemotherapy before returning to the ring at the 2020 Olympics. Chen reached the quarterfinals of the tournament and only later publicly revealed her battle with cancer. With her third Olympic appearance under her belt, Chen has expressed her confidence, stressing that the upcoming semi-finals are just the beginning. She is determined to prepare for her semi-final match against China's Yang Liu on August 7.
