Many public schools cannot recruit enough 10th graders.

On August 7, Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, informed about the results of additional enrollment for grade 10 in the 2024-2025 school year of high schools in the area.

Accordingly, the additional recruitment for grade 10 has helped ensure the rights of students who failed their 3 wishes but due to many reasons such as choosing inappropriate wishes, choosing wrong wishes... with high scores to continue studying at public schools in the area.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has applied a regional priority mechanism for students studying at secondary schools in suburban districts such as Cu Chi, Nha Be, Can Gio, Hoc Mon, Binh Chanh and Thu Duc City. Candidates applying to high schools in the same area as this secondary school will be considered according to their first choice.

Regarding additional enrollment, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City announced the enrollment of 2,203 additional students at 36 high schools in the area. Some schools have a large number of additional students, such as Phong Phu High School (Binh Chanh District) with 300 students, Nguyen Van Linh High School (District 8) with 191 students, An Nhon Tay High School (Cu Chi District) with 140 students, or Nguyen Van Tang High School (Thu Duc City) with 134 students. In addition, some high schools with the top 10th grade benchmark scores in Ho Chi Minh City also recruit additional 10th grade students, such as Le Quy Don High School (District 3) with 15 students.

However, after about 2 weeks of announcing the information, the schools only recruited 1,400 students. This means that about 800 public grade 10 places in the above schools were not filled, reaching 63.5%.

This is not surprising information because previously, many parents said that due to strict additional enrollment conditions, some students who wanted to enroll could not attend.

Specifically, students must fail all three choices and the additional admission score must be greater than the first round of school preferences. Therefore, many students have to accept other choices because they do not meet the additional admission requirements.
