Shortly after releasing iOS 17.6, Apple released iOS 17.6.1 update for iPhone users to fix an issue related to the Enhanced Data Protection feature.

According to Apple, the iOS 17.6.1 update fixes an issue with Enhanced Data Protection. The release notes state, "This update includes important bug fixes and addresses an issue that prevented Enhanced Data Protection from being turned on or off."

Advanced Data Protection is an optional feature that extends end-to-end encryption to several additional iCloud services, including iCloud device backup, messages, photos, and more.

The iPhone maker says a bug in the Enhanced Data Protection feature in the iOS 17.6 update has affected a small number of users. If a user tries to enable Enhanced Data Protection and it fails, they will receive an error message letting them know the change was unsuccessful.

If a user tries to turn off the feature and fails, the interface will show that the feature is disabled but still active in iCloud. After updating to iOS 17.6.1, these users will be prompted to go into Settings and verify that they still want to turn off Enhanced Data Protection.

iOS 17.6 is a minor update for iPhones that Apple released last month that includes a number of bug fixes and security improvements. It also introduces a new “Catch Up” feature in the TV app that uses machine learning to generate a series of highlight clips for MLS matches.

Users can update their iPhones to iOS 17.6.1 by going to Settings > General > Software Update . The new update's build number is 21G93, and it's available for any iPhone compatible with iOS 17.

Along with iOS 17.6.1, Apple also released macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 and iOS 16.7.10 updates for older iPhone models to fix the same bug with the Enhanced Data Protection feature.
