Challenges in the international arena become the material for Vietnamese designers to go far

More than 2 years since becoming the valedictorian of the fashion major at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture and attracting attention on social media platforms with his graduation project "Peaceful Vietnam", designer Phan Huy, born in 1999, has gradually created his own mark thanks to designs imbued with the philosophy of purism (a minimalist style with practical applications created with sophisticated techniques).

This is the third time Phan Huy has debuted at Paris Fashion Week. This designer continues to affirm his own mark through a new collection inspired by the image of moths - small insects with many magical concepts and beauty.

Talking to Dan Tri reporter, the designer said that his new collection focuses on practicality and limits the fancifulness in design to harmonize both fashion and commercial elements.

To complete 21 designs that are both rich in personal identity and meet the strict requirements of the international market, the designer and team spent more than 5 months of continuous and intense work.

In addition to minimalist white and black, Phan Huy also uses pastel colors, gold tones... in the new collection (Photo: Character provided).

In particular, the collection implementation phase begins before December 2024, coinciding with the peak time at the end of the year and close to Tet - one of the busiest periods in the fashion industry when orders for the holiday season must be completed quickly. Therefore, the pressure is doubled when Huy and his team have to both speed up the progress of orders for customers and devote all their efforts to completing each design for the collection.

"The biggest challenge this time is that each design requires high technique, meticulousness and almost absolute perfection. Some models have to be tested over and over again to achieve perfection in shape and material," Phan Huy shared.

Besides internal pressure, Phan Huy also faces big challenges from the international arena. Paris Fashion Week is not only a gathering place for long-standing brands and big names, but also a stage for many talented young designers with large-scale, well-prepared collections.

"The international market, especially fashionistas in Paris, always prioritize uniqueness in design. Therefore, each product not only needs to be beautiful but also truly new, different, and clearly shows the brand's personality," the designer emphasized.

Inspired by his own childhood memories of sitting in front of his father's car, wandering through the night and being fascinated by the moths flying into the light, the Moth collection is designer Phan Huy's narrative about his own journey to find the light.

Each design is a symbol of daring to break through limits, pursuing light and one's own dreams.

"Whether we are moths or humans, we all have our own light to pursue. And I hope each of my designs will be a reminder of resilience, of the beauty of dreams and aspirations," Phan Huy shared.

The image of fragile moth wings has been delicately recreated by Phan Huy through the language of fashion, from the creative application of textile (fabric created by machine weaving or hand weaving), the processing of 3D patterns floating on the body, to stripes simulating insect wings, or transparent layers of fabric creating the effect of interference between light and shadow.

With its third launch in Paris, the event introducing designer Phan Huy's collection lasted from March 6-9 in a private space, where fashionistas and experts had the opportunity to get closer to each design.

The exhibition attracted special attention from experts, customers and international partners, especially the appearance of Ms. Bettina von Schlippe, Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Singapore. In addition, the collection also received attention from many other media channels such as Brazil TV, Paris Fashion Week TV..., promising to expand Phan Huy's footprint in the international market.
