*Experts comment on the Philippines-China agreement in the South China Sea: Experts believe that, angered by China's "misrepresentation" of the agreement reached between the two sides regarding Second Thomas Shoal, Philippine officials now appear to be waiting to see if the interim agreement between Manila and Beijing is sufficient to prevent renewed tensions.

To date, the exact details of the agreement between the Philippines and China have not been made public. On July 21, the Philippines announced it had "reached an agreement on a temporary arrangement" with China to de-escalate tensions during resupply missions for the naval vessel BRP Sierra Madre at Second Thomas Shoal after intense conflict peaked in June.

Experts say that while the Philippines views the agreement as a reaffirmation of its sovereignty, China sees it as a temporary measure to manage immediate tensions while continuing its broader claims to the disputed waters . (Phistar)
