In the film, Robert Pattinson plays Mickey Barnes (Mickey 17), the most vulnerable member on a mission to invade an icy planet called Niflheim in 2054. The unique point of the film is the detail that when Mickey 17 dies, a new Mickey 18 is cloned.

Death suddenly becomes meaningless, but it raises ethical concerns that have preoccupied experts on earth long before the colonization project began.

Mickey 17 refuses to give up his existence to Mickey 18, and he also trembles when facing death. From here, the audience moves on to a political satire, in which both Mickeys are entangled in a war with a dictator - an American politician named Kenneth Marshall (played by Mark Ruffalo).

What gives the film its powerful, dramatic appeal is the moment Mickey 17 has to endure the terrible, inevitable end of death over and over again. What does it mean - that's the question everyone asks Mickey 17.

Mickey 17 is adapted from the 2022 novel of the same name by Edward Ashton, written and directed by Bong Joon-ho . The film has a budget of 118 million USD, bringing spectacular scenes of the icy planet Niflheim, excellent CGI effects.

However, Bong Joon-ho still cannot save a weak script compared to Parasite . The director tries to incorporate many themes into the film: the ethics of cloning, cultural conflicts and heavy political messages. But instead of cleverly integrating them, Bong handles them rather crudely and unsubtly. These messages are presented to the audience - mostly in words - instead of being felt for themselves. Robert Pattinson's impressive performance as Mickey 17 and 18 cannot patch up the plot hole when it cannot explain why the Mickey's clones have different personalities despite being implanted with the same memories.

Mickey 17 also features the following cast : Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Steven Yeun, Patsy Ferran... and will be released in Vietnam from March 14.
