Coming to the garden of Nguyen Huu Trung (31 years old, in Bao An ward, Phan Rang - Thap Cham city), everyone is impressed with thousands of cactus pots blooming with many brilliant colors.

The IT engineer loves cactus

"My garden has an area of ​​about 700 ^{square meters} , currently has more than 3,000 cactus pots with nearly 300 different colors, depending on the crossbreeding method, it will produce single-color or multi-color pots" - Mr. Trung shared.

Born and raised in Phan Rang, Trung is familiar with the cactus species endemic to this land of sun, sand and wind.

Passionate about cacti, he tried to "beautify" the locally sourced plant, but it was not effective.

To satisfy his passion, in 2020, Trung went online to learn, connected with forums, groups, flower distributors and imported more than 600 Lobivia cactus seedlings from Thailand for experimental planting.

After that, Trung researched and successfully crossbred Lobivia cactus seedlings using manual methods and succeeded in creating beautiful, colorful flower clusters.

He said he has now identified and mastered the method of crossbreeding Lobivia cactus.

The characteristics of this variety are inherited through the flowers, the colors are very diverse and rich, the flowers bloom in clusters, blooming for more than 2 days before fading. After 3 weeks, another bud will continue to bloom, thanks to which the flowers bloom beautifully all year round.

"In particular, through monitoring the characteristics of the Lobivia cactus variety, it is very suitable for the weather and soil conditions in Ninh Thuan, so the plant grows well and has impressive colors," Trung said.

Mr. Trung said that his main job is an IT engineer in Ho Chi Minh City. Every weekend, he returns to his hometown Ninh Thuan to take care of and grow cacti.

Up to now, in addition to the Lobivia cactus variety originating from Thailand, he has successfully crossbred a number of typical cactus codes such as Sunstar, HLB75, HLB91, HLB93...

Playing with flowers, must understand the "temperament" of flowers

Visiting Mr. Trung's colorful cactus garden to visit, take pictures and buy some for decoration, Ms. Phan Thi Kim Do (in Nhon Hai commune, Ninh Hai district) could not hide her admiration.

"I have never seen a cactus garden with so many unique flowers and colors like here. It's impressive" - ​​Ms. Do exclaimed.

According to Mr. Trung, he does not use any pesticides for the cactus, he only takes care to maintain the natural vitality of the plant.

He shared: "Cacti adapt to the harshest climate conditions, especially the sun in Ninh Thuan. The hotter the sun, the more beautiful the cactus blooms. Cacti are not picky about their players, but you have to understand the "temperament" of cacti, not fertilize too much, not water too much, and not neglect the plant so that it can live on its own."

Up to now, his cactus garden has been known to many customers in and outside Ninh Thuan province.

Depending on the type, the price of each pot ranges from 80,000 - 150,000 VND.
