With the motto of more children knowing how to swim, there will be no more children drowning, Thu Duc City Sports Center opens completely free swimming classes for children from 8 to 14 years old.

The class takes place at 5 swimming pools (No. 8 Thao Dien, 343 Le Van Viet, 26 Chuong Duong, Long Phuoc Ward Sports and Cultural Center and Thien Than Shelter) in Thu Duc City.

Coach Nguyen Y Cao Nguyen (in charge of swimming pool 343 Le Van Viet, Thu Duc City) said that children learning to swim for the first time will practice breathing movements, taking breaths through the mouth to get used to the water.

The time for the children to get into the water is from 30 - 40 minutes (for young children) and 1 hour for older children. After that, they will play ball throwing games, relay races... to get used to withstanding water pressure, making it easier for them to practice.

"When going to rivers or lakes, parents need to let their children soak in the water first to get used to it, equip them with lifebuoys, let them swim in water within their reach, do not let them go over water above their heads, and parents need to observe carefully," said Mr. Nguyen.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hai Dang - Deputy Director of Thu Duc City Sports Center, the center organizes free swimming for children in 34 wards with a number of 1,000 children, mainly from families with difficult circumstances, who do not have the conditions for their children to access this sport.

"The center builds summer programs, implements drowning prevention work and creates playgrounds for children, helping them access the water environment and instructing them on safety skills to prevent drowning.

We plan to continue organizing next year, increasing the scale to meet the needs of children in the area. After finishing the course, the children will be tested, evaluated by the coach and given a basic swimming certificate if they complete the 25m distance" - Mr. Dang said.

Free swimming lessons for students

Every afternoon, the free swimming class at the swimming pool of Gia Lai Province Youth Activity Center is packed with young students.
