Rhododendrons are present on most of the high mountain peaks of Lai Chau ; however, the most numerous and beautiful are concentrated on the Hoang Lien Son range at an altitude of about 2,600m above sea level. In particular, the marked point is Do Quyen peak at an altitude of 2,619m, in Tam Duong district. This location is on the route to conquer PuTaLeng peak - the third highest mountain peak in our country, 3,049m high.
Rhododendrons in Lai Chau begin to bloom in late February and are in full bloom in March.
The 2,600m altitude area on the road to PuTaLeng peak has tens of thousands of rhododendron trees.
At the end of 2024, the Vietnam Record Organization (Vietkings) announced the decision to recognize the ancient rhododendron forest concentrated here as having the largest area in Vietnam.
Rhododendron flowers bring the brilliant and charming beauty of the mountains and forests.
Rhododendron also has other names such as: Son Tra, Man Son Hong.
Statistics show that Lai Chau has more than 30 different species of rhododendrons. Climbing mountains to see rhododendrons and exploring and conquering high peaks is one of the tourism development orientations of Lai Chau.
Lai Chau has also organized mountain climbing competitions , including the Do Quyen peak conquest competition, with the hope of turning it into a strong tourism product of the province.
