Since Apple refreshed its entire iPhone lineup in 2020 – introducing a new design and 5G connectivity – the company’s smartphones have yet to receive a major overhaul. According to financial news agency Bloomberg , the iPhone 16 is no exception.
Although the iPhone 15 Pro uses a titanium frame for the first time, it is basically the same as the iPhone 14. And although the iPhone 14 Pro adds Dynamic Island, it is not really a breakthrough compared to the iPhone 13 Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro is only a small improvement from the iPhone 12.

This year's iPhone 16 quartet - iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max - are not much different from current iPhone models. Accordingly, the highlight will be Apple Intelligence, a new set of AI features. All iPhone 16s run Apple Intelligence. The regular iPhone 16 has an Action button, which only appeared on the Pro version last year.
According to Bloomberg , there will be a new camera control button on the right side, at least on the Pro version. It works like the button on a DSLR camera, pressing lightly to activate autofocus and pressing harder to take a photo. Users can also swipe along the button to zoom in and out when recording and shooting.
Another change that could come to the Pro is a larger screen: from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches with the iPhone 16 Pro and 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches with the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Traditionally, the colors on the iPhone have also changed. For the Pro, Bloomberg predicts that the blue color will disappear, replaced by rose gold. There will also be a new chip, the A18. All four models will use 8GB of RAM, because that is the minimum capacity needed to run Apple Intelligence.
Bloomberg said that if you are using an older iPhone, these are good but insignificant upgrades. The iPhone 16 is unlikely to create a fever for Apple. However, things will be different in 2025. First, Apple is said to announce a new iPhone SE with a similar appearance to the iPhone 14, using a sharper OLED screen and also equipped with Apple Intelligence.
Next, the more significant change will come in September with the iPhone 17. The 2025 iPhone lineup will introduce a new iPhone: the iPhone Air, which replaces the iPhone Plus and features a much thinner design that sits between the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro. It’s similar to the MacBook Air’s position between the MacBook and MacBook Pro. So if you want something more appealing than the standard iPhone but don’t need the performance, screen size, or camera of the Pro, you can get the iPhone Air.
The combination of the iPhone SE and the new iPhone Air should be enough to deliver meaningful growth for Apple next year.
