The Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) informed that this unit has just received a quick report from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province on the situation of diarrhea in dairy cows in Don Duong and Duc Trong districts, requesting the Department of Animal Health to support disease prevention.

Immediately after receiving the request from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province, the Department of Animal Health established a working group (led by the leader of the Department of Animal Health) to go to Lam Dong province to coordinate the implementation of disease prevention measures and investigate to determine the cause. The planned working period is from August 7 to August 10.

The main content is to check the diarrhea situation in dairy cows in Lam Dong province and high-risk locations; support epidemiological investigation, collect samples for testing of pathogens and guide disease control measures.

Along with that, the working group also inspected the use of lumpy skin disease vaccine (the vaccine with the commercial name NAVET-LPVAC) being used in Lam Dong province.

Previously, on August 7, the Department of Animal Health also sent a document requesting the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province and the Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company (Navetco) to stop using lumpy skin disease vaccine in the entire Lam Dong province to organize an investigation to determine the cause of diarrhea in dairy cows; confiscate all used lumpy skin disease vaccine bottles, unused bottles and unused bottles, and carefully preserve them for sampling and testing.

In the immediate future, according to the request of the Department of Animal Health, the temporary solution is to assign veterinary staff to each household with cattle suffering from diarrhea to provide guidance on disease prevention measures; use drugs to increase resistance, prevent dehydration and prevent diarrhea for dairy cows.

The Department of Animal Health also requested the Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company (Navetco) to immediately send leaders and technical staff with good expertise and experience to the localities to implement disease prevention and control measures; investigate and determine the cause; provide full information to specialized agencies and the working group of the Department of Animal Health. The Department of Animal Health's official dispatch also clearly stated that Navetco needs to coordinate with localities to implement remedial measures if related to the vaccine produced by this unit.

Yesterday, August 7, the Department of Animal Health reported to Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan and Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien about the disease situation in dairy cows in Lam Dong and the support for Lam Dong province to investigate the cause and urgently deploy disease prevention measures.

According to a report sent to Minister Le Minh Hoan, since July 26, diarrhea has appeared in dairy cows in Don Duong and Duc Trong districts of Lam Dong province. As of August 6, a total of 3,670 calves and dairy cows from 163 households in 5 communes of 2 districts (Don Duong and Duc Trong) had diarrhea, of which 45 died in 32 households in 4 communes (Ka Do, Quang Lap and Tu Tra in Don Duong district; Hiep Thanh commune in Duc Trong district).
