More than 2,000 billion to replace 480 high-speed recorders on Hanoi railway line

Reporting to the Ministry of Transport on solutions to deal with weak points on railway lines, the Vietnam Railway Authority proposed a project to replace the main high-speed turn signals on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line.

According to the Vietnam Railway Authority, the investment goal of the project is to replace old, poor quality turntables on the main line with high-speed turntables to ensure train safety. At the same time, increase train speed through stations along the line, contributing to improving transport capacity, thereby effectively exploiting the capacity of the upper-level architecture.

Regarding the investment scale, all 484 existing old turnouts on the main route will be replaced with high-speed turnouts, with a total estimated investment of VND 2,000 billion from medium-term public investment capital for 2026 - 2031.

The Vietnam Railway Authority also said that the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line is more than 1,700 km long, running along the North - South corridor through 21 provinces and cities, through many areas with different terrains. Many of these sections pass through rugged terrain, high mountains, small curve radius, large longitudinal slope, low throughput capacity, and pose many potential risks to construction safety.

From 2012 to present, for the upper-floor architectural works, the Ministry of Transport has implemented many projects for renovation such as: the project to replace sleepers K1, K2, Vinh - Nha Trang iron sleepers (phase 1); the project to renovate and upgrade the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line with a capital of 7,000 billion VND for the medium term 2016-2026; the project to renovate and upgrade the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City railway line with a capital of 3,000 billion VND for the medium term 2021-2026.

There are also annual periodic repair works. So far, the main line's upper-level architecture basically ensures safety according to regulations, mainly the lower-level architecture at the stations is of poor quality.

Of which, 199/683 high-speed recorders on the main railway line have been replaced, while 484 old low-quality recorders need to be replaced.
