Top most dangerous airports in the world
Located about 54 km from the capital Thimphu, Paro Airport is located in a deep valley on the banks of the Paro Chhu River in western Bhutan. The Himalayan mountains rise to over 5,500 meters above sea level, making it one of the most difficult places in the world for planes to land.
Strong winds from the valley often cause aircraft to sway when approaching the airport. The short runway requires experienced and agile pilots to fly. Pilots need to be trained to perform thrilling landings at Paro airport.
Planes can only arrive or depart from this airport during the day. Because the runway is completely out of sight of pilots before they fly at a 45-degree angle over the mountains, descending rapidly to land. The airport has two runways, and can handle up to 50 flights a day.
