The theater is full.

On the morning of March 13, 2025, at the Vietnam Film Institute, a large audience attended the premiere of the feature film "Two Mothers" by director Nguyen Khac Loi. This is a classic film in a series of film screenings celebrating the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Cinema Industry, March 15, 1953 - March 15, 2025.

The film tells the story of Bua, a Thai woman of Vietnamese origin, who was taken to Laos by the French army, lost her husband and son. Thanks to the help of a Laotian revolutionary cadre - Mrs. Duong Chan, Mrs. Bua was lucky to escape. When Duong Chan died at the hands of the French army, Mrs. Bua adopted Duong Chan's daughter Bua Mi, and from then on, the mother and daughter always stood side by side throughout the years of resistance, fighting for independence with the Lao people and Vietnamese volunteer soldiers.

At the Film Institute, many audiences were still present very early, eagerly waiting to watch the feature film "Two Mothers" on the big screen. Mr. Luong Tat Dat, a loyal audience of the Film Institute, shared: "I rarely miss meaningful film screenings like this. Historical works always bring very special emotions, especially to those who lived in that period like us. The film reminds me of those difficult days, how strong the bond between the two nations was. With the same enemy, the same purpose, the two small nations stood up, fought together and finally won together in an explosion. Those are heroic pages of history that time cannot fade."

Mr. Luong Tat Dat and his wife came to see the movie early.

Although she was familiar with the film, when she fully enjoyed it on the big screen, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Quynh still could not hide the emotion that the film brought. "The scenes in the film made me feel like I was back in the past, living with the characters, feeling the pain of loss, separation and the overwhelming happiness of reunion. The moment the mother found her child after many years apart was not only a happy ending for the character, but also a happy ending for both nations. After many months of bloodshed, experiencing many losses and sacrifices, finally gaining freedom, the two nations were able to stand firm in their own homeland" - Ms. Quynh said.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Quynh shared that this was the third time she watched this movie.

Not only impressing with its profound humanistic content, "Two Mothers" also conquered the audience thanks to its authentic storytelling, excellent acting by veteran actors such as Thuy Van, Lich Du, Le Khanh, Huy Cong... and the delicate camera angles of People's Artist Nguyen Khanh Du.

Quang Anh (born in 1996), a young audience member present at the screening, expressed his surprise at the way the film was presented, which was produced 50 years ago. "It's hard to believe that a film produced under limited technical conditions has such excellent scenes. The scene where the female character resists the French invasion is one of my favorite and also haunting details. That detail has recreated so realistically the pain that women had to endure during the extreme war period," Quanh Anh emphasized.

At the 4th Vietnam Film Festival (1977), the film was awarded a Certificate of Merit, while People's Artist Nguyen Khac Loi won the Best Director award and People's Artist Nguyen Khanh Du won the Best Cinematography award.

Even though 50 years have passed, "Two Mothers" is still a special mark in the flow of Vietnamese cinema. The film not only realistically depicts the arduous struggle but also honors humanity, comradeship, and compatriots, reminding the younger generation of the great sacrifices in the journey of fighting for independence of our ancestors./.
