The information was provided by Ms. Bui Thi Lan Phuong - Vice Chairman of Tay Ho District - at the 2023-2024 School Year Summary Conference of Hanoi City held on the morning of August 14.
In addition to the new high school under construction in Nhat Tan ward, Tay Ho district is also investing in repairing two high schools, Chu Van An and Tay Ho.
From now until 2025, Tay Ho district will build 8 more new schools from kindergarten to high school.
Also last year, Hoang Mai district started construction of 17 public schools. There are 4 school projects from kindergarten to high school expected to be completed in the 2024-2025 school year.
In the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi will increase the number of preschools and general schools at all levels, including both public and non-public schools. Of these, there is one newly established public high school, Tho Xuan High School, in Dan Phuong District. The total investment for this school is 110 billion VND.
The city's school year summary report shows that the scale of education in Hanoi is constantly growing.
The total number of schools in Hanoi is 2,913 with 2.3 million students, accounting for nearly 1/10 of the country's students. The total number of teachers in Hanoi is about 130,000 people.
Currently, the city has 23 high-quality schools and is investing in building 7 advanced, modern inter-level schools with a scale of 5 hectares or more.
The rate of schools meeting national standards in Hanoi is 80%. The rate of high school graduates is 99.81%, up 5 places compared to 2023. The number of students winning national and international prizes in Hanoi continues to lead the country with 198 prizes.
The number of students enrolling in public grade 10 in 2024 is 73,370 students, accounting for 99.56% of the public enrollment target.
One of the highlights of the capital's education in the 2023-2024 school year is the strengthening of state management of education and training, without hot issues that cause social outrage.
In particular, the situation of parents lining up overnight to submit their children's school applications has completely ended when the Department of Education and Training instructed schools to organize online enrollment.
Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong highly appreciated the positive changes in the capital's education in the past school year. The Deputy Minister cited the figure of 97.6% of Hanoi's primary schools implementing digital report cards, stating that this was a great effort by management levels and educational institutions.

In terms of existence, the Deputy Minister of Education and Training suggested that Hanoi resolve two "bottlenecks" related to teachers.
Currently, the rate of qualified teachers in Hanoi is low compared to the whole country. One of the reasons for this situation is that the number of non-public teachers in Hanoi is very large, dragging down the overall rate of qualified teachers.
The Deputy Minister reminded the leaders of the Hanoi education sector to consult with the city to have a suitable roadmap to raise teacher standards in both the public and private sectors.
If not resolved, within the next 5-6 years, a large number of teachers will no longer be qualified to teach, exacerbating the teacher shortage in the capital.
Notably, Hanoi currently has 8,000 unused teacher quotas, the highest in the country. Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong raised the issue of this local shortage of teachers at the conference, and also acknowledged the difference in teacher quality between the inner city and the suburbs.
