Head of the Hanoi Population Department Vu Duy Hung said that the quality of the capital's population has gradually improved, with significant contributions from pre-marital health consultation and examination activities.

In particular, the rate of young men and women receiving pre-marital health consultation and examination increases every year. If in 2022, this rate was only 31.9%, by 2023 it increased to 53.7% and in the first 6 months of 2024 it reached 63%.

However, currently in the city, there is no connection between people who need pre-marital health check-ups and medical facilities. Many people, after being advised and promoted about pre-marital health check-ups, do not know where to go for check-ups or what to check. Some people even think that they have had a pre-marital health check-up after going for a regular health check-up.

Since 2022, the Hanoi People's Committee has issued a decision approving the project to expand screening, diagnosis, and treatment of some prenatal and neonatal diseases and disabilities by 2030, in which the project's target is that the rate of young men and women receiving pre-marital health consultation and examination by 2025 will reach at least 85% and by 2030 will reach at least 95%.

To increase the rate of men and women receiving pre-marital health check-ups according to the assigned project targets, the Hanoi Department of Health has planned to deploy a pilot model of this work in 2024.

Under the direction of the Department of Health, the Hanoi Population Office has selected Bac Tu Liem District to pilot a model of providing pre-marital health examination and counseling services. Since April 2024, the Bac Tu Liem District Health Center has coordinated with relevant units to implement this pilot model.

Director of Bac Tu Liem District Health Center Nguyen Van Ty said that the model of providing pre-marital health examination and counseling services in the area has been implemented for 5 months now.

After 5 months of implementation, Bac Tu Liem district has focused on the following tasks: Developing and implementing detailed plans, arranging and decorating consulting rooms, communication documents... ensuring professional regulations, meeting the right to access information, the right to be provided with services, the right to privacy, the right to keep personal information confidential and some other basic rights.

In addition, at the consulting room of Bac Tu Liem District Health Center, 64 people were directly consulted and 156 people were consulted by phone. The subjects of consultation were between the ages of 16 and 30, mostly couples preparing to have children and students.

The pre-marital health examination and consultation room is deployed in Bac Tu Liem district and is maintained daily and weekly. Here, there are medical staff on duty to promptly meet the needs of health examination and consultation of young men and women in the district.

The purpose of this model is to improve the efficiency of providing pre-marital health examination and counseling services. From the pilot model, it will be expanded throughout the city to contribute to improving the quality of the capital's population.
