Morgane Metraux entered the 2024 Paris Olympics ranked 127th in the world and was not expected to compete for a medal. However, the Swiss golfer is surprising everyone with a strong start. She finished the first day in third place with a score of -2. And on the second day, Metraux was even better with a score of -6. At one point, she reached a score of -10 when she completed the first 9 holes with only 28 strokes, winning 4 birdies and 2 eagles. After 2 days of competition, with a score of -8, Metraux has taken the top spot from Celine Boutier, the golfer from the host country France has dropped to 6th place with -3. In second place is Ruoning Yin of China with -7 while Lydia Ko of New Zealand is in third place with -5. Notably, two female golfers from Southeast Asia also played quite impressively. Bianca Pagdanganan of the Philippines and Atthaya Thitikul of Thailand tied for sixth place with a score of -3. At Le Golf National, world number one Nelly Korda was still the center of attention. The 26-year-old American had a decent day and was close to the lead at one point. But the par-3 16th hole turned into a disaster when Korda made a quadruple bogey. In frustration, she needed three putts to complete the 17th hole. Korda ended her second round still out of the medal group. She dropped to 12th place with a score of -2. “I was six under par before the 16th hole. But a poor wedge shot into the sand left me stuck. The sand was packed so hard I had to hit hard and the ball went behind the green. It was a series of unfortunate events that ruined everything,” Korda said in disappointment. Not only Korda, her two compatriots Rose Zhang and Lilia Vu also did not have a smooth competition day. Zhang tied for 12th place while Vu was in 14th place with a score of -1.
