The tournament took place at Son Tay Town Gymnasium (Son Tay Town, Hanoi) on March 16, organized by the Vietnam Chess Federation in coordination with the People's Committee of Son Tay Town and the Center for Culture, Information and Sports of Son Tay Town.
At the tournament, athletes competed in rapid chess. 484 athletes from 26 chess teams from the provinces and cities of Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Hai Duong, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi ... and many chess clubs across the country, such as Future Grandmasters Club, Vinh Phuc Chess Club, Blue House Club, Chess 88 Club, Hoa Phuong Do Grandmasters Club, Thai Nguyen Chess Club... participated in the tournament, competing in 13 events.
Accordingly, the competition tables for men and women include age groups (U6, U7, U8, U9, U11 , U13) and an extended table. The tournament applies the Swiss system with 7 matches, each match lasts 15 minutes for each player.

At the end of the tournament, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes to outstanding individuals and teams in each age category. According to the Organizing Committee, the results of the tournament's open group will be calculated for international elo and announced in the April 2025 rankings of the World Chess Federation.
The Son Tay Open Chess Tournament will be held for the first time in 2023, marking a new development of Hanoi chess as well as Son Tay town. From here, the competition system of Vietnamese chess and Hanoi chess will have an additional playground rich in professional meaning, especially for young players.
Currently, Son Tay town chess has young player Nguyen Xuan Phuong who is part of the Hanoi chess team, won a bronze medal in the U8 individual category at the 2023 Asian Youth Chess Championship, a gold medal at the 2023 Southeast Asian Youth Chess Championship...
