Earlier, ending a volatile first trading session of the week, oil prices fell about 50 cents as the sell-off continued in global equity markets, but losses were limited by concerns that Iran's retaliation for the assassination of a Hamas political leader in Tehran could lead to a wider conflict in the Middle East.

Brent crude fell 51 cents, or 0.66 percent, to $76.30 a barrel. WTI crude fell 58 cents, or 0.79 percent, to $72.94 a barrel.

Stock markets from Asia to North America plunged on August 5 as investors fled riskier assets and bet that the US Federal Reserve would need to cut interest rates quickly to boost US economic growth.

Phil Flynn, senior analyst at Price Futures Group, wrote in a note that stocks are cooling after the US jobs report led the market to believe the Fed is once again behind schedule.

Concerns about potential supply disruptions due to escalating conflict in the Middle East limited oil prices' decline during the session.

Israel and the United States are bracing for a serious escalation in the region after Iran and its allies Hamas and Hezbollah pledged to retaliate against Israel for the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and a senior Hezbollah military commander last week.

John Kilduff, founding partner of Again Capital LLC, commented that oil traders are expecting Iran's response to be short-lived, making crude futures more vulnerable to concerns about a US economic recession.

Also weighing on oil prices is a sharp drop in diesel consumption in China, the biggest contributor to global oil demand growth.

Domestic retail prices of gasoline on August 6 are as follows:

E5 RON 92 gasoline is not more than 21,900 VND/liter.

RON 95-III gasoline is not more than 22,884 VND/liter.

Diesel oil not more than 20,194 VND/liter.

Kerosene not more than 20,326 VND/liter.

Fuel oil not exceeding 17,178 VND/kg.

The above domestic retail price of gasoline and oil was adjusted by the Ministry of Finance - Industry and Trade at the price management session on the afternoon of August 1.

Diesel oil price decreased the most, 316 VND/liter. Mazut oil price decreased 292 VND/kg, E5 RON 92 gasoline decreased 284 VND/liter, RON 95-III gasoline decreased 281 VND/liter. Kerosene decreased the least, 231 VND/liter.

This is the fourth consecutive reduction in domestic gasoline prices.
