Oil prices today, August 13, this morning Brent and WTI oil prices unexpectedly slipped slightly. However, the prices of these two standard oil products are still forecast to increase due to concerns that the spreading conflict in the Middle East could tighten global crude oil supplies.

Previously, at the end of the first trading session of the week (August 12), oil prices increased by more than 3%.

Brent crude rose $2.64, or 3.3 percent, to $82.30 a barrel. WTI crude rose $3.22, or 4.2 percent, to $80.06 a barrel.

Reuters quoted information from the US Department of Defense saying that the US deployed submarines equipped with guided missiles to the Middle East in the context that the region is preparing for the risk of possible attacks by Iran and its allies against Israel.

Iran and Hezbollah have vowed to retaliate against Israel after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah military commander Fuad Shukr. The conflict could widen in the Middle East and tighten access to global crude supplies, which has helped fuel a surge in oil prices.

Bob Yawger, director of energy futures at Mizuho in New York, said an Iranian attack could prompt the US to impose sanctions on Iran's crude exports, which could affect the supply of 1.5 million barrels per day.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued operations near the southern Gaza Strip city of Khan Younis following a weekend airstrike on a school that killed at least 90 people, according to the Gaza Civil Emergency Department.

John Kilduff, partner at Again Capital in New York, said the market is increasingly concerned about conflict across the Middle East. A wider conflict could prompt Israel to target Iranian oil and disrupt crude from other major producers in the region, including Iraq.

Last week, Brent crude prices rose 3.7% and WTI crude rose 4.5% after higher-than-expected US jobs data raised hopes of interest rate cuts in the world's largest crude consumer.

The data eases concerns about a US recession, said market analyst Tony Sycamore of IG.

Investors are turning their attention to US consumer price index (PCI) data for July.

Oil prices were supported as the market digested information that in July, the PCI of China, the world's largest oil importer, increased 0.5% compared to the same period last year and higher than the 0.2% increase in June.

In connection with the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Russia has evacuated civilians from several areas near Ukraine after Kiev increased military activity near the border.

Domestic retail prices of gasoline on August 13 are as follows:

E5 RON 92 gasoline is not more than 20,715 VND/liter.

RON 95-III gasoline is not more than 21,673 VND/liter.

Diesel oil not more than 19,141 VND/liter.

Kerosene not more than 19,411 VND/liter.

Fuel oil not exceeding 16,028 VND/kg.

The above domestic retail price of gasoline was adjusted by the Ministry of Finance - Industry and Trade at the price management session on the afternoon of August 8.

Due to the sharp drop in world oil prices, domestic oil prices have also dropped sharply, marking the fifth consecutive drop.

RON 95-III gasoline decreased the most, by 930 VND/liter, followed by E5 RON 92 gasoline, down 901 VND/liter. Fuel oil price decreased by 858 VND/kg, diesel oil decreased by 737 VND/liter, and kerosene decreased by 684 VND/liter.
