After a series of slight increases since the beginning of the week, the USD price on the free market today (August 9) suddenly reversed and decreased sharply.

Foreign exchange points in the free market this morning traded USD at a common price of 25,575-25,655 VND/USD (buy - sell). Compared to the previous session, the free USD price decreased by 115 VND in both buying and selling directions.

Compared to the peak of 25,950-26,030 VND/USD (buy - sell) set on June 27, the free USD price has "evaporated" 375 VND in both buying and selling directions today.

Along with the trend, the USD price on the official market also went down.

The State Bank announced the central exchange rate on August 9 at 24,260 VND/USD, down 2 VND compared to the previous session.

Applying a 5% margin, commercial banks are allowed to trade today at a ceiling rate of VND25,473/USD and a floor rate of VND23,047/USD.

The buying and selling exchange rates are still maintained by the State Bank of Vietnam within the trading range of 23,400-25,450 VND/USD.

Commercial banks also simultaneously adjusted down USD prices in both buying and selling directions.

This morning, Vietcombank listed the USD cash buying price at 24,925 VND/USD, selling price at 25,295 VND/USD (buying - selling), down 45 VND in both buying and selling compared to yesterday morning (August 8).

This morning, VietinBank bought and sold USD at 24,939-25,279 VND/USD, down 52 VND in both buying and selling compared to yesterday morning.

At the private joint stock commercial banking sector, Techcombank bought USD in cash at 24,872 VND/USD and sold at 25,270 VND/USD, down 55 VND in both directions compared to the morning of August 8.

Sacombank listed the USD price at 24,955-25,295 VND/USD (buy - sell), down 5 VND in both buying and selling compared to yesterday morning.

Compared to the free market, the USD buying price at banks is 600 VND lower and the USD selling price is nearly 400 VND lower.

Meanwhile, in the world market, the USD price today reversed and decreased slightly.

The US Dollar Index (measuring the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies) at 11:40 a.m. on August 9 (Vietnam time) was at 103.18 points, down 0.03% from the previous session.

The greenback gained on Thursday after new US labor market data showed jobless claims fell more than expected last week, easing concerns about an impending recession.
