*Pig price in the North:

Live pigs in the Northern market recorded no new price fluctuations in this morning's trading session.

Of which, the highest price in the region is 66,000 VND/kg, continuing to be anchored in the provinces of Bac Giang, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi and Tuyen Quang.

The remaining localities continue to keep the price of live pigs unchanged at around 64,000 - 65,000 VND/kg.

Today's live pig price in the North is around 64,000 - 66,000 VND/kg.

* Pig price in the Central Highlands region

In the Central Highlands - Central region pig market, purchasing prices are also quiet across the board.

Currently, the four provinces of Quang Tri, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak are implementing a common pork price of 61,000 VND/kg - the lowest recorded in the region.

Traders in the remaining provinces and cities traded live pigs at unchanged prices compared to the same time yesterday morning.

Currently, the price of live pigs in the Central and Central Highlands regions is around 61,000 - 64,000 VND/kg.

According to statistics from the Thanh Hoa Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, the province currently has 1.3 million pigs. Of which, the number of pigs for meat weighing 70 - 100kg is regularly maintained at about 220 thousand.

On average, Thanh Hoa farms and households sell 155,000 to 160,000 pigs per month. Of these, about 110,000 - 115,000 are slaughtered and consumed within the province, and about 40,000 - 45,000 are sold to other provinces. It is estimated that in the last 4 months of 2024, the whole province will sell about 650,000 pigs. If the current average price is about 65,000 VND/kg, farmers will make a profit of about 1.5 million VND/pig.

Thus, under the condition that the epidemic is stable and the price of live pigs remains at the current high level, it is estimated that in 2024, the total value of pig farming production in Thanh Hoa will reach about 11,700 billion VND with 2 million pigs for sale.

*Pig price in the Southern region

The price of live pigs in the South is also stable following the general market trend.

Except for Vinh Long, which is implementing the lowest price of live pigs in the region at 61,000 VND/kg, the remaining provinces and cities continued to maintain the price of live pigs unchanged this morning.

Currently, the purchase price in the South fluctuates between 61,000 - 64,000 VND/kg.

*Supply cannot meet demand, pork prices increase and stay high, helping the 'big guys' in the livestock industry make a fortune. Some businesses make profits dozens of times higher than the same period last year.

Mr. Tong Xuan Chinh - Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) - said that from now until the end of the year - including during Tet when the demand for pork increases by about 10-15%, we still ensure a good supply from domestic pork production. However, it is necessary to prevent African swine fever well and practice biosafety in livestock farming.

“We have recommended that 16 large pig farming enterprises nationwide expand their production scale to ensure supply,” he emphasized. As for pig farming households, when starting or increasing their herds, they must ensure safe, disease-free and quality pig breeds, and strictly ensure biosecurity to maintain the pig herd.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development forecasts that the supply of pigs will increase again in the coming time. However, due to the complicated epidemic situation, the price of live pigs may remain high and only decrease again in 2025.
