* Brazil, Russia, Canada, Germany and the US are the five largest pork suppliers to Vietnam in the second quarter of 2024. Of which, Brazil is the largest market with 10,500 tons, worth 23.33 million USD, up 72.7% in volume and 60.9% in value over the same period in 2023.

Despite large imports, domestic supply is not lacking. Vietnam ranks 6th in the world in pork production with an output of more than 2.7 million tons in 2023.

On the other hand, in the second quarter of 2024, Vietnam exported 6,190 tons of meat and meat products, worth 25.95 million USD, up 36.3% in volume and 8.8% in value over the same period in 2023.

Vietnam's meat and meat products are exported the most to the Hong Kong market (China) with 2,570 tons, worth 14.65 million USD, accounting for 41.59% in volume and 56.46% in value.

In the second quarter of 2024, the domestic meat market will not have major fluctuations, and supply will always meet consumer demand. Vietnam's pig herd is likely to increase again as household farming shifts strongly to semi-industrial farming and links with businesses.

However, African swine fever is still complicated in many localities, causing unstable livestock farming, especially in the household sector. Pork prices tend to decrease again from the end of the second quarter of 2024 due to low consumption demand.
