After finishing fourth in the final of the women's 10m air pistol event, Trinh Thu Vinh continued to enter the qualifying round of the women's 25m sport pistol event. Because this is not the forte of the Thanh Hoa native, coach Park Chung-gun set his student the goal of reaching the final round.

However, Thu Vinh performed extremely impressively in the qualifying round. The Vietnamese shooter scored 290 points after three series of 10 shots in the slow-fire section, ranking seventh out of 40 competitors.

However, Thu Vinh's highlight only really came in the rapid fire section (also consisting of three series of 10 shots each), when the female shooter born in 2000 left fans overwhelmed.

Specifically, Thu Vinh won 297 points out of a maximum of 300 points. In the first series and the first half of the second series, Thu Vinh had 15 consecutive 10-point shots. Combined with 2 10-point shots in the previous slow-fire series, Thu Vinh had 17 consecutive 10-point shots, second only to Veronika Major's 24-point 10-point streak. In addition, Thu Vinh also hit the bull's eye 25 times, the second highest in the qualifying round.

With fourth place, Thu Vinh has the honor of the final of the women's 25m sport pistol. The 24-year-old shooter will meet familiar opponents who met in the final of the women's 10m air pistol such as Veronika Major or Manu Bhaker.

Notably, Kim Ye-jin, the reigning world champion (and world record holder) in the women's 25m pistol, failed to qualify. Kim Ye-jin finished in the top eight in the first half of the qualifying round, but a fateful zero in the rapid-fire round denied the Korean shooter a chance to reach the final. Earlier, Kim Ye-ji also won a silver medal in the women's 10m air pistol.

Thus, Thu Vinh has avoided a strong opponent in the final. The Vietnamese shooter will compete at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow (August 3) for the medal that the country's sports delegation has been waiting for.
