German government spokesman Wolfgang Buchner quoted Chancellor Scholz as emphasizing that "now is the time to finalize an agreement on the release of hostages and a ceasefire."
The German leader noted that "ending the conflict in Gaza would be a decisive step toward de-escalating tensions in the Middle East."
Furthermore, Prime Minister Scholz also expressed concern to his counterpart Netanyahu that while Israel had achieved many military objectives in the fight against the Hamas Islamic movement, the casualties among civilians and the suffering of the people in Gaza were still immense.
Meanwhile, on the same day, the Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that Foreign Minister Wang Yi had spoken by phone with Iranian Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, affirming Beijing's support for Tehran in its efforts to protect its "national sovereignty, security, and dignity."
During the phone call, Wang Yi reiterated China's stance condemning the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31, stating that the act violated Iran's sovereignty and threatened regional stability.
According to the Chinese Foreign Minister, the assassination of leader Haniyeh has "directly undermined the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza as well as peace and stability in the region."
He emphasized: "China supports Iran in its efforts to protect its sovereignty, security, and national dignity in accordance with international law, and Iran's efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region, and is ready to maintain close contact with Iran."
Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian nominated Abbas Araqchi as the country's Foreign Minister. Araqchi served as Iran's chief negotiator in the nuclear talks from 2013 to 2021.
