In 2024, Vietnam surpassed Singapore to become the third most visited country in the region. With 17.5 million international visitors, Vietnam is only behind Malaysia (25 million) and Thailand (35 million).
According to data released by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in the first two months of 2025, Vietnam welcomed nearly 4 million tourists, an increase of 30.2% over the same period last year.
According to experts, the growing appeal of Vietnam tourism is due to many factors. First is accessibility: The first direct flight between the United States and Vietnam will be launched by Vietnam Airlines in 2021, from San Francisco to Ho Chi Minh City. New e-visa policies will be introduced in 2023, simplifying the entry process for tourists and allowing stays of up to 90 days. Vietnam also allows visa-free entry for more than a dozen countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, South Korea and Spain, with more to be added in the future.

Many of the world’s leading hotel brands are already present in Vietnam, while the expansion of Michelin accreditation by 2024 has created a global platform for the country’s growing culinary scene. All of these factors make Vietnam increasingly attractive to luxury travelers who have already visited Koh Samui and Phuket in Thailand, or those looking for a less crowded alternative to Japan and Singapore.
