Since the beginning of March, the weather has gradually warmed up, high humidity has created favorable conditions for the rice blast disease to arise and cause damage. In some areas, the leaf blast disease has appeared on susceptible rice varieties. In addition, some early rice areas have recorded the appearance of two-spotted stem borers at instars 3 and 4. It is forecasted that from March 25 to April 10, larvae will hatch, causing damage with high density on early rice and mass rice areas in areas with high sources of larvae from previous crops. Of which, the area requiring prevention is about 1,500 hectares, mainly concentrated on early rice.

Inspecting the field in Ha Giang commune (Dong Hung), the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the agricultural sector to assign more staff to go to the grassroots level, proactively coordinate with localities to monitor the growth and development stages of crops and guide people in caring for, fertilizing, estimating and forecasting pests and diseases to have timely prevention and control measures. Districts and cities need to direct localities, agricultural service cooperatives and farmers to regularly inspect fields. If the disease rate is detected at 3-5% or more, it is necessary to spray pesticides according to the recommendations of specialized agencies. At the same time, strengthen monitoring of brown planthoppers and leaf rollers and absolutely do not be subjective, avoid widespread pests and diseases, affecting the yield and quality of spring rice. Authorities need to step up inspection of business activities and trade of pesticides to ensure product quality, prevent the circulation of poor quality drugs, causing low prevention and control efficiency.

In Vu Thu district, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee inspected the vegetable growing area in Nguyen Xa commune. This spring crop, the whole district planted 2,900 hectares of vegetables, including 33 hectares of potatoes, expected to be harvested at the end of March. According to forecasts, the potato yield this spring crop in Vu Thu district is higher than in previous years.

Through a field inspection at Nguyen Xa commune's vegetable fields, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the locality's initiative in implementing the plan to plant and care for spring vegetables, especially crops with high economic value such as potatoes and various vegetables.

He emphasized that localities need to speed up the planting of crops in the remaining areas, ensuring the best cropping time frame. At the same time, they need to focus on guiding farmers to apply technical advances in production, closely monitor the situation of pests and diseases to have timely preventive measures.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested that agricultural service cooperatives and agricultural product purchasing enterprises closely coordinate in product consumption, ensuring stable output, helping farmers feel secure in production.
