Synchronizing solutions to promote the recycling market

Báo Sài Gòn Giải phóngBáo Sài Gòn Giải phóng19/11/2024

On the afternoon of August 9, the Vietnam Waste Recycling Association celebrated its 3rd anniversary.

Mr. Tran Viet Anh, Chairman of the Vietnam Waste Recycling Association, said that the recycling market in Vietnam is generally weak and does not meet the requirements, with the waste recycling rate only reaching about 10%. The main reasons are the lack of suitable recycling technology, the lack of proper industrial clusters and industrial parks for recycling; the source classification work is also not synchronous... If these causes can be overcome, the potential for waste recycling in Vietnam is huge, bringing valuable resources.

Mr. Tran Viet Anh, Chairman of Vietnam Waste Recycling Association shared at the program.

Mr. Phan Tuan Hung, Director of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, said that Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is an approach to environmental policy, according to which the responsibility of the manufacturer of a product is extended to the disposal stage in the life cycle of that product. The EPR policy requires manufacturers to be responsible for managing products after they become waste. This regulation forces businesses to further enhance their responsibility in collecting, recovering, recycling, and reusing waste.

Over the past 3 years, the Association has promoted many community activities and encouraged businesses to produce green, clean, and protect the environment. It has been a judge for a number of green business awards and environmental solution competitions. In particular, the Association launched the School Recycling Culture program for the 2023-2024 school year with the support of Unilever Vietnam, members of the Association, and many organizations. The program took place enthusiastically at 10 schools in District 7 and District 8, Ho Chi Minh City, attracting more than 10,000 students to participate, with more than 1,000 creative products. The Association awarded more than 3,000 gifts and collected more than 2 tons of recycled waste at the event.
