According to information from Phu Tho General Hospital, doctors here have just received a patient, Mr. TVT (34 years old) from Ba Vi, Hanoi, with end-stage chronic kidney failure .

The patient said that he had never had a medical check-up before, so he did not know he was sick. Recently, he had a headache and felt tired, so he went to a clinic near his house and was diagnosed with sinusitis and treated with oral and injectable medications.

However, after taking medicine, the condition did not improve, signs of fatigue increased, swelling appeared in both lower limbs, little urination... so he went to Phu Tho Provincial General Hospital for examination.

At the hospital, after clinical examination and general tests and ultrasound, the doctors said the patient had anemia with HC 3.24 T/L, HST 90 g/l; high blood pressure 180/100 mmHg; severe renal impairment with Urea 28.28 mmol/L, creatinine 810.9 mmol/L; on ultrasound, both kidneys were atrophied, there was abdominal fluid and pleural fluid on both sides.

The patient was diagnosed with end-stage chronic renal failure/hypertension, anemia, and polymembranous effusion and was admitted for inpatient treatment.

At the Kidney Dialysis Center, doctors consulted and prescribed treatment in the direction of emergency dialysis, symptomatic treatment, control of underlying diseases, improvement of physical condition with appropriate nutrition, kidney protein supplementation, and surgery to create an arteriovenous shunt for long-term hemodialysis.

Currently, after a period of intensive treatment, the patient is less tired, no longer has edema, can urinate, and is in stable condition. Next, the patient will have to undergo dialysis 3 times a week.

Dr. Ngo Thi Huong - Kidney Dialysis Center said: "Chronic kidney failure is a condition of kidney dysfunction that occurs over many months or years. In this patient's case, if the patient had regular health check-ups, the disease could have been detected earlier, we would have had effective treatment methods and the patient might not have had to undergo regular dialysis."

However, because the patient came to the hospital late, the disease had silently progressed to the final stage without him knowing. This time, using oral and injectable medications to treat sinusitis was just the last straw that caused the disease to progress to an acute phase, so the patient went to the hospital for examination.

Notably, like the case of patient T mentioned above, at the Kidney - Dialysis Center, Phu Tho General Hospital, many other cases of patients admitted to the hospital with severe kidney failure or end-stage kidney failure were prescribed renal replacement therapy on the first visit. These are very serious and unfortunate consequences for the patients.

Through this, the doctor recommends that, to avoid unfortunate consequences, people should have regular health check-ups every 6 months to 1 year. When having health problems, they should go to reputable medical facilities to be examined, detected, diagnosed correctly and have appropriate treatment methods. Patients should not arbitrarily use oral medications of unknown origin, origin, or oral medications to avoid unfortunate consequences.
