Inspired by each person's childhood memories, the event selected 6 Hang Trong folk paintings with the theme of Vietnamese folk games to transform into lantern sets such as Dragon and Snake in the Clouds, Dragon Procession, Tug of War, Blind Man's Catch, etc. People participating in the event were guided by artisans to print black lines, use hand-drawn pens and color patterns or freely create according to their own preferences.

Sharing about the meaning of the event, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huu, Founder of the Magic of Color (MOC) art project, said: “We have chosen the lantern to organize a series of workshops dedicated to the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2024, called "Memory Color" with the theme of the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2024, which will bring people back to their own memories and we have chosen a set of Hang Trong folk paintings, depicting Vietnamese folk games to put on the lanterns this year. There are many different types of paintings in Hang Trong folk paintings. However, there are very special paintings that simulate ancient Vietnamese folk games and these paintings have been preserved for hundreds of years and are currently a set of paintings that are considered little known, besides the Four Seasons of Hang Trong, we hope to connect so that more people know about this type of folk painting of the capital Hanoi ”.
Sharing about the aesthetic, spiritual and religious values of the ancient Kinh people in Hang Trong folk paintings, artisan Le Dinh Nghien said that today, the application of the typical motifs of this folk painting genre in modern life has contributed to preserving and spreading the traditional cultural beauty of the capital: “Folk paintings are reduced to lanterns, and also try to bring folk images for everyone to know more. Not only lanterns, art stores also convert to gemstone paintings, then ceramics, I think that folk images are imbued with their own uniqueness, not confused with other art forms. This is also the way people look back at the images and hobbies of our ancestors in the past”.
To create Hang Trong folk paintings is not easy, the painter must practice mixing, finding the most eye-catching colors, while the patterns of Hang Trong folk paintings are quite small and complex. This is the challenge for players when making Do paper lanterns, but these are also interesting experiences, bringing unforgettable memories.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Minh, Hoang Mai, Hanoi shared: "The painting I chose today is a lion dance painting. In the painting, there are folk elements of the nation, there are lion dancers, people holding stars and people accompanying to create a very colorful painting. I want to combine color elements to stand out such as blue or red, cold and warm tones combined harmoniously to have the most eye-catching overall painting".
Ms. Thuy Dung said: “I really like art, especially my traditional folk art. For events like this, I also want to come and meet the artisans, listen to the stories they share so that I can have a deeper understanding of the traditional folk paintings of Vietnam. I hope that there will be more workshops like this so that young people can be exposed to traditional folk paintings and understand more about the traditional arts of Vietnam."

Instead of admiring the beauty of the lanterns, the process of drawing, coloring and completing the painting on the lanterns by hand helps people understand more about the meaning and cultural beauty in each traditional folk painting. The series of events of painting and making Do paper lanterns will be organized by the Magic of Color (MOC) project every Sunday from August 4 to September 15 at the Area 75 Art Center, 75 Hang Bo, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi, promising to be an attractive activity during this year's Mid-Autumn Festival.
