Comrade Le Quang Dao's birth name was Nguyen Duc Nguyen, born on August 8, 1921 in a family with a tradition of patriotism and revolution in Dinh Bang commune, Tu Son district, Bac Ninh province (now Dinh Bang ward, Tu Son city).

During more than 60 years of continuous revolutionary activities, comrade Le Quang Dao was entrusted by the Party, State and people with many important responsibilities: Secretary of the Party Committee of Bac Ninh and Phuc Yen provinces; Secretary of the Hai Phong City Party Committee; Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee; Deputy Director of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army; Head of the Central Science and Education Commission in charge of mass mobilization work; Chairman of the National Assembly; Vice Chairman of the State Council; Chairman of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
