This year, the Organizing Committee received more than 100 works from 30 participating countries of major radio, television and news agencies (RRI Indonesia, KBS Korea, France 24, Radio Television Brunei, Radio Television Hong Kong, China Media Group (CGTN)...). The jury, which is a group of media experts recognized worldwide, selected 7 best works (including 3 best radio works, 3 best television works and 1 best digital work on 3 topics: peace, people and planet).
At the Award Ceremony, the work “Song on the Mountain” by author Ba Duy - VOV2 Social and Cultural Department was honored in the category of Outstanding Work on People. The story of teacher Ly Thi Cong and her students at Vang Lech 2 school is a beautiful image of Vietnamese education when teachers are willing to sacrifice, endure many difficulties and disadvantages to achieve the goal: “Where there are children, there is a school”.
The Voice of Vietnam has received many awards from ABU, with the highlight being that in the last 2 years 2022 and 2023, it won 3 awards including 2 Excellence Awards (First Prize) and 1 Encouragement Award. In the category of News Reportage, VOV won the Excellence Award for 3 consecutive years 2021, 2022, 2023.
With the theme “Communication saves lives”, the 8th ABU Communication Conference on Climate Action and Disaster Preparedness in Bali once again affirmed that the media is not just a “microphone” to spread the messages of other stakeholders but is recognized as a partner.
The media has many opportunities to expand its reach and increase information to wider audiences about the impacts of climate change, as well as the efforts of governments and intergovernmental organizations to reduce threats to life, health, food, water and national security.
The two-day conference in Bali served as an important platform to promote media-to-media, media-to-stakeholder collaboration and dialogue on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
