On January 18 and 19, Vietnamese Ambassador to Tanzania Vu Thanh Huyen, along with Ambassadors and representatives from embassies of several countries, attended the Extraordinary Congress of the ruling Revolutionary Party of Tanzania (CCM).
Also attending the Congress were leaders of the ruling parties of Angola, Burundi, Mozambique, South Africa, Uganda, Rwanda and nearly 2,000 delegates of the CCM Party.

The Congress highlighted outstanding achievements in the period from November 2020 to December 2024 in implementing the CCM Party Manifesto; elected the Party Vice President to replace Mr. Kinana who resigned in July 2024.
Accordingly, Mr. Stephen Masato Wasiro, former Minister of Water and Irrigation, was elected Vice President of the CCM Party with 1,910 votes in favor.
Mr. Stephen Masato Wasiro is one of Tanzania’s prominent politicians, with over four decades of significant contributions to the country’s political landscape and development. Considered a steadfast politician, he has held many ministerial positions, party leadership positions and other influential positions, leaving many marks in the country’s history.

The congress passed a resolution endorsing President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Mr. Hussein Ali Hassan Mwinyi as official candidates for the upcoming Tanzanian and Zanzibar autonomous region presidential elections, respectively.
Also at the Congress, President Samia Suluhu Hassan appointed Dr. Nchimbi, Secretary General of the CCM Party, as the Vice President candidate for the October 2025 election after Vice President Philip Mpango offered to resign.
