DNVN - On the afternoon of August 13, the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang organized the announcement and award ceremony of the pilot program of emulation to save electricity using IoT technology "Conquering challenges - Convenient green living" in the city.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang Nguyen Van Tru, the electricity saving competition program "Conquering challenges - Convenient green living" on the EPoint application was organized by the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang in coordination with ICOM International Investment and Trade Joint Stock Company and relevant units.

The program aims to raise public awareness of energy saving and efficiency, and encourage the application of Internet of Things (IoT) technology to optimize electricity use, contributing to the implementation of the national energy saving program for the 2020-2030 period.

At the program results announcement ceremony on the afternoon of August 13, the Organizing Committee awarded special, first, second, third and consolation prizes to 9 customers who won the final prize. In addition, 200 customers who won prizes each week were awarded prizes online by the Organizing Committee beforehand.

Mr. Bui Do Quoc Huy - Deputy Director of Da Nang Power Company Limited (PC Da Nang) said that this program took place from June 10 to July 9, which was a period of record hot weather due to the El-Nino phenomenon. PC Da Nang also encountered many difficulties in ensuring electricity supply when the maximum capacity Pmax of the entire system reached 668.5 MW, an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2023, exceeding 8.7% compared to the maximum capacity in 2023; the maximum daily output recorded a record of 13.75 million kWh, an increase of 1 million kWh/day compared to 2023 (12.8 million kWh).

“In that context, with many solutions to promote the use of electricity economically and effectively, along with the spread and practical significance of the program “Conquering challenges - Convenient green living”, up to this point, PC Da Nang has successfully completed the task of ensuring electricity supply, serving people's lives, political security, and socio-economic development in the city during the 2024 dry season”, Mr. Bui Do Quoc Huy shared.

Accordingly, during the program, 284 IoT devices were installed, 241 devices were connected, of which 181 devices remained connected. There were 209 customers who installed the EPoint application, of which 50% achieved power saving efficiency of over 40% compared to the same period in 2023 (for electrical devices with controllers installed).

However, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Tru, the number of customers participating only reached 284/500, much lower than the initial target. Some difficulties encountered include not being able to install the device due to the lack of wifi connection, incompatible devices, the size of the installed device not being suitable for the user's existing electrical system design or not being able to contact the householder (because each household was not surveyed in advance, but only when the device was available, the householder was contacted to schedule a time to survey and proceed with installation if appropriate).

“This shows that there is still much work to be done to objectively evaluate the effectiveness and compatibility of control devices installed in people’s power systems and that improvements are needed to be considered for implementation in the future. Saving electricity not only benefits individuals but also contributes to environmental protection, economic development and ensuring energy security,” Mr. Nguyen Van Tru emphasized.
