On the evening of August 8, in Prague, Czech Republic, the ASEAN Committee in the Czech Republic (ACP) held a ceremony to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (August 8, 1967 - August 8, 2024).

Attending and speaking were Ms. Jitka Seitlova, Vice President of the Czech Senate, Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Eduard Hulicius, along with Ambassadors, officials and staff of ASEAN embassies, and hundreds of guests from representative agencies of countries, international friends, and Vietnamese associations in the Czech Republic.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, on behalf of the ACP, Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam, who is also the rotating Chairman of the ACP, emphasized that over the past half century, ASEAN has grown increasingly stronger in both scale and influence based on the principles of mutual respect and cooperation.

Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam affirmed that ACP is committed to further strengthening solidarity, unity and building an increasingly strong and sustainable community. ACP believes that with its vibrant development and increasingly deep integration into the world economy, ASEAN is expected to become the fourth largest economic bloc in the world by 2030 after the United States, China and the European Union.

The Vietnamese Ambassador said that the world is facing many changes and challenges, the ASEAN community needs to further strengthen its cohesion, connectivity activities, address current challenges and come up with new initiatives to further promote cooperation in the region, including with the Czech Republic.

In the coming time, Vietnam will continue to work with ASEAN countries to maintain and promote achievements, shoulder and share, cooperate to successfully implement common goals, and lay an important foundation for the sustainable development of the ASEAN Community in the future.

Delighted to attend the important event of ACP, Ms. Jitka Seitlova, Vice President of the Czech Senate, reaffirmed the strong cooperation between ACP member states and European countries, including the Czech Republic. Regarding economic cooperation, ASEAN is currently the third largest trading partner of the EU (after the US and China).

Ms. Jitka Seitlova said that Southeast Asia is currently a very dynamically developing region, which has opened up many opportunities for cooperation between the Czech Republic and ASEAN countries, especially in trade cooperation with Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand. In the coming time, the Czech Republic hopes to continue to further promote cooperation in areas of strength for ASEAN countries.

This event is an opportunity for international friends to better understand the common goals and aspirations of ASEAN, as well as the comprehensive cooperation with countries in the European region in general and the Czech Republic in particular. With the spirit of solidarity and response throughout the community, ASEAN has succeeded in building a strong and connected community with partners around the world.

Within the framework of the program, the guests enjoyed many cultural and artistic performances and traditional dishes of ASEAN member countries. This is also an opportunity to promote and disseminate the traditional values ​​and history of ASEAN in general and ASEAN countries in particular; creating opportunities for the ASEAN community in the Czech Republic to become increasingly united and together further promote the identity and central role of ASEAN in the Czech Republic and the region.
