Today (August 8), the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang province held a public apology to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chung - former Principal of Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School (Rach Gia City).

At the apology, Ms. Pham Xuan Binh - Deputy Director of the Department - apologized to Mr. Chung. The reason was that Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Giang - former Director of the Department - provided information to the press before the competent authority concluded that Mr. Chung had committed wrongdoings.

The above move took place after the People's Court of District 12 (HCMC) issued a decision to recognize the agreement of the parties including: Mr. Chung, the Department of Education and Training and Ms. Giang.

According to the court’s decision, the Department of Education and Training of Kien Giang province must publicly apologize to Mr. Chung because Ms. Giang provided information to the press before the competent authority had concluded on the violations related to Mr. Chung. In addition, Ms. Giang is also jointly responsible with the Department, compensating Mr. Chung for damages in the amount of 1 million VND.

Also at the apology, Ms. Giang shared that during her work, she did not fulfill her responsibilities well and did not completely handle the case before retiring.

“I apologize to Mr. Chung. In this case, the Department of Education and Training officials had to go to court 10 times, wasting human and financial resources. I would also like to apologize to the leaders and officials of the Department,” said Ms. Giang.

Sharing information with the press, Mr. Chung said that in 2017, while he was the Principal of Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School, he was transferred by the provincial Department of Education and Training to work as Deputy Head of the Secondary Education Department.

At that time, Mr. Chung expressed his wish to stay at the school due to health reasons and because he was about to retire. However, the decision was still implemented, so he resigned.

According to Mr. Chung, during her tenure as Director of the Department of Education and Training, Ms. Giang insulted honor and provided unverified information to the press.

“For 7 years, I have been searching for justice to reclaim my honor, dignity and reputation. I have suffered injustice after dedicating myself to the education of my province. Today, everything is basically clear and transparent,” Mr. Chung shared.

Regarding the incident, in April 2018, the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee disciplined Ms. Giang with a reprimand. Ms. Giang's shortcoming was that as the head of the education sector, she was partly responsible for the violations of a number of high schools.

In addition, Ms. Giang accepted Ms. Pham Kim Thoa - a contract employee of Kien Giang Agricultural Products Trading Joint Stock Company - to work at Vo Van Kiet Secondary and High School without going through an exam or selection process...
