Why did some shops in Ho Chi Minh City return their premises or even stop operating at the end of 2024?
Contract Expiry
As an office worker in District 1 (HCMC), Ms. Thanh Thao said that every Friday night or on weekends, she and her friends often visit a vegetarian restaurant on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street (District 3) to enjoy. She learned about the restaurant through the introduction of a friend who also works on this street, the first time he invited her to eat there 2 years ago.

A restaurant branch that has been a familiar destination for diners in Ho Chi Minh City for many years has returned the premises at the end of 2024 due to the expiration of the contract.
The reason why she has been attached to the restaurant for many years is partly because of the delicious food, good service attitude, beautiful space and reasonable prices in the central area of Ho Chi Minh City. Whenever she has friends from far away or abroad coming to Ho Chi Minh City, she often brings them here.
"One fine day I stopped by the shop and suddenly saw that it was closed, no longer operating, and there was no sign. Some people were standing in front cleaning. When I asked around, I found out that the shop had just returned the premises not long ago. This was a familiar meeting place for my friends, so I was a bit disappointed," she said.
Contacting the restaurant, the manager said that the branch had just returned the premises due to the expiration of the contract with the landlord. However, the restaurant still had a branch operating normally in District 3 not far away.
Ms. Thao can still enjoy the familiar flavors at other restaurant branches after her regular shop closes, however, many customers may no longer be able to enjoy their favorite drinks at April Tea Shop when recently on its official fanpage, this famous coffee shop in Ho Chi Minh City announced that it will close all branches before the new year 2025, surprising and regretting many people.

The coffee shop, a famous check-in destination for many young people in Ho Chi Minh City for many years, has also announced that it will stop operating before the new year 2025.
The shop's announcement stated: "Today is a beautiful day... to say goodbye! April Tea Shop would like to announce that December 25, 2024 will be Tu's last day of operation. Only 20 days left until Tu's 5-year journey ends and we say goodbye to our beloved guests...".
According to this announcement, the last branch of the cafe on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street (District 3) will stop operating before the new year 2025. Previously, from mid-2024, the branches of this brand announced their closure one after another.
Responding to Thanh Nien , the cafe said it would not share any further information about the cafe's closure. Many regular customers of this cafe also came to support and take photos on these last days of operation.

Unexpectedly returned premises
In early December, Ms. Le Vuong (living in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) was in a panic when she had to find someone to rent her restaurant because at that time, the tenant had suddenly returned the premises. The owner said that her premises were on Dinh Duc Thien Street near Binh Chanh Market, the restaurant was selling well, with a large number of customers.
"Business was going well, but suddenly the tenants returned the premises at the end of the year. I heard that there was an internal investigation by the tenants. It was really a deadlock because the shop had temporarily stopped operating for 6 days," she said.

The tenant suddenly returned the premises despite good business, Ms. Vuong was panicked and had to find a new tenant.
According to Ms. Vuong, the shop has tables, chairs, and tools ready to open, so the tenant just needs to come in and start working right away. She herself is busy with many jobs and cannot manage the shop, so she decided to sublet it. Currently, the owner has found a new tenant and will reopen the shop later. She said that the unexpected return of the premises was an unfortunate incident, but at this time the shop is operating normally again and is crowded with customers.
"The restaurant is 24 meters wide and 35 meters long, quite spacious for a restaurant business. I rent it out for 40 million VND/month, but after negotiating, I reduced the rent by 3 million VND for the customer," she said, hoping that the tenant's business will be more and more favorable at the end of the year, with more customers.

Many familiar restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City closed at the end of the year, surprising many customers.
Not only Ho Chi Minh City, recently a barbecue restaurant in Ninh Kieu (Can Tho City) also announced that it will officially stop operating from December 16. Below the post, many people who said they were regular customers of the restaurant also shared the information and expressed regret when the restaurant suddenly closed at the end of the year.
"This is not an easy announcement, because we know that this place is not just a restaurant, but also a meeting place full of memories for many dear customers," the restaurant said.
